He can be found slalom skating between cones in Central Park, zooming through Prospect Park or marshaling group skates on behalf of the Empire Skate Club.<\/p>\n<p>Beginners, be warned: A friend told Shah that \u201cseeing new skaters in the park was really exciting, but that they needed to get lessons, because they were a hot mess.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Shah advises finding an instructor or using a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">YouTube<\/a> or other online tutorial \u201cto learn how to stop properly, so you can be safe about things,\u201d says Shah, who still lives in Woodside.<\/p>\n<p>Lockdown has meant less traffic, but that has emboldened drivers to hit the gas a little harder, Shah warns, so new skaters should remain aware of their surroundings.<\/p>\n<p>Head to an open, flat area to try out a skill that will make you look slick: the pivot turn.<\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIt\u2019s totally approachable by skaters once they\u2019ve got a little balance on wheels,\u201d Shah says. \u201cIt\u2019s not the most beginner move, but it\u2019s something that looks very cool and is not often seen.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/WktrMKl3mgc?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;fs=1&#038;autohide=2&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;wmode=transparent\" title=\"Video\" width=\"640\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Here, Shah breaks down each step:<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Step_1_Get_Ready\"><\/span>Step 1: Get Ready<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_15786933\"><img alt=\"Arnav Shah's Step 1.\" data- data- height=\"441\" width=\"662\"><\/img><figcaption><span>Arnav Shah\u2019s Step 1.<\/span><span>Courtesy of Arnav Shah<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Start in a ready position. That\u2019s your pivot foot. (Shah demonstrates with his left leg.) Put your weight on your back leg, or satellite foot, balancing on all wheels. Once you\u2019re steady, lift your front skate onto your heel, so that only the back wheel touches the ground, straightening your knee. Once you get the moves down in an idle position, try gaining some momentum and doing the above while in motion, keeping your pivot foot perpendicular to the satellite one.
