\n Signing that \u201cLetter on Justice and Open Debate\u201d looks to have gotten one fairly prominent left-wing writer muzzled \u2014 proving the point of the letter.<\/p>\n

As Kelly Jane Torrance noted in Thursday\u2019s Post, the letter calls for an end to the \u201cintolerance of opposing views\u201d and \u201cvogue for public shaming\u201d now growing on the left. The lefty lashback included an attack from a Vox colleague on Matt Yglesias, a perfectly progressive writer for the site.<\/p>\n

The complaints were absurd \u2014 such as a puzzling claim that the letter contains \u201cmany dog whistles towards anti-trans positions\u201d \u2014 and surrounded by \u201cplease don\u2019t throw in him that briar patch\u201d disavowals of any intent to get him fired.<\/p>\n

Yet Vox higherups evidently cracked down anyway. Yglesias\u2019 boss, Ezra Klein, tweeted at him the next day: \u201cA lot of debates that sell themselves as being about free speech are actually about power. And there\u2019s *a lot* of power in being able to claim, and hold, the mantle of free speech defender.\u201d<\/p>\n

Soon after, Iglesias declined to engage in further discussion of these issues, announcing, \u201cI have committed to not doing contentious stuff on Twitter<\/a> anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n

Count Vox as being against \u201cJustice and Open Debate.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
