Riddle me this: Why is indie actor Paul Dano out-trending major movie star Robert Pattinson on Twitter<\/a> right now? <\/p>\n

New promo art from \u201cThe Batman\u201d has been leaked \u2014\u00a0and the villain is already pulling focus from \u201cThe Dark Knight\u201d himself. <\/p>\n

The <\/a>colorful \u2014 but still not officially endorsed<\/a> by Warner Bros. \u2014 images, thought to be leaked from a tie-in calendar<\/a>, show Pattinson\u2019s title character in filmmaker Matt Reeves\u2019 hotly anticipated reboot. One fan declared, \u201cHoly s \u2013 \u2013 t doesn\u2019t Robert Pattinson look amazing in the Bat Suit[?]\u201d<\/p>\n

But it\u2019s the first look at Dano\u2019s Riddler that has the Twitterverse in a full-on fan frenzy.<\/p>\n

Many pointed out what they considered to be a clear inspiration for Dano\u2019s costume: The notorious Zodiac Killer, a still-unidentified serial murderer who terrorized northern California in the 1960s and \u201970s.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Zodiac Killer\u00a0is clearly a huge inspiration for the design of the Riddler,\u201d tweeted one<\/a> confident serial killer-cum-comic book expert, while another gushed<\/a>: \u201cI love his Zodiac Killer vibe.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another summed it up<\/a> like this: \u201cPaul Dano\u2019s Riddler\u00a0is going to be one of the greatest CBM villain performances of all time mark my words.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reps for Warner Bros. are remaining mum about the authenticity<\/a> of all images that fans shared on social media platforms on Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. <\/p>\n

Meanwhile, after a series<\/a> of COVID-19-induced delays, Warner Bros. latest installment in the Dark Knight ouevre seems firmly back on the pre-release hype track. <\/p>\n

Filming officially\u00a0resumed on Sept. 17, after halting production for two weeks when somebody involved with the movie, who was rumored to be Pattinson,\u00a0tested positive\u00a0for the coronavirus.<\/p>\n

However, by October 12, 2020, a healthy Pattinson, 34, was spotted back on set \u2014 filming a drizzly funeral scene outside St. George\u2019s Hall in Liverpool, England. It marked the first time the British actor had been seen outside in character. Warner Bros. also had about 100 extras on hand for the sequence, which has jarred some insiders given the UK\u2019s spike in coronavirus cases at the time.<\/p>\n

\u201cQuite a few of us are surprised, to say the least, that around 100 people based in a film studio in Hertfordshire are being asked to go to a high risk area in the North West,\u201d a source told MailOnline at the time<\/a>. \u201cHowever, to be fair to the production company, they do test for coronavirus.\u201d<\/p>\n

The film also\u00a0plans to have Chicago double<\/a>\u00a0as Gotham City, the Chicago Tribune reported, just as it did during Christopher Nolan\u2019s 2008 \u201cThe Dark Knight.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Batman,\u201d which also stars Zo\u00eb Kravitz and Colin Farrell,\u00a0is now set to be released on March 4, 2022.<\/em>\n <\/div>\n
