Libertarian: NY Leads on Crazy COVID Codes<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cuomo, \u201cNew York has been a national leader\u201d in proving \u201carbitrary restrictions on economic \u00adbehavior are a poor way to fight this, or any, public health scourge.\u201d<\/p>\n

Scientists: Duly Investigate Virus\u2019 Origins<\/strong><\/p>\n

In an open letter to Science magazine<\/a>, 18 scientists urge a \u201cproper \u00adinvestigation\u201d into COVID-19\u2019s origins. \u201cTheories of accidental release from a lab and zoonotic spillover\u201d from, say, bats, \u201cboth remain viable,\u201d but the China-World Health Organization study that found \u201cno clear support of either\u201d didn\u2019t give them \u201cbalanced consideration\u201d: Just \u201c4 of the 313 pages of the report and its annexes addressed the possibility of a laboratory accident.\u201d Knowing COVID\u2019s origins \u201cis critical\u201d for mitigating \u201cthe risk of future outbreaks.\u201d We need a probe that is \u201ctransparent, objective, data-driven, inclusive of broad expertise, subject to independent oversight and responsibly managed to minimize the impact of conflicts of interest.\u201d<\/p>\n

Conservative: Biden\u2019s Mideast Mess<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cEvents in Israel,\u201d observes Victoria Coates at National Review<\/a>, \u201care eerily similar\u201d to those in summer 2014. Iran, then \u201cbuoyed by\u201d talks with the Obama administration, empowered \u201cits terrorist proxy Hamas to \u00adattack Israel from Gaza\u201d \u2014 and the US response \u201cdelighted\u201d it. \u201cPresident Barack Obama was so enraged by the Jewish state\u2019s audacity in defending itself,\u201d he ordered additional review \u201con an urgent Israeli request for additional Hellfire missiles.\u201d Israel de-escalated as Obama demanded, \u201cleaving Hamas bloodied but still intact to plot future offenses,\u201d while Iranian officials, convinced \u201cthey had their desired negotiating partners,\u201d signed the nuclear deal with its \u201chighly favorable\u201d terms. President Biden is \u00adreturning to those \u201cfailed policies,\u201d claiming \u201cmoral equivalence\u201d \u00adbetween Israel and Hamas, providing the Palestinians unconditional aid and giving Tehran hope for sanctions relief, which has the regime upping \u201cits financial support for Hamas from $70 million a year to $30 million a month.\u201d In \u201cjust 100 days,\u201d Biden \u201chas completely undermined the extended period of relative calm and expanding peace under President Donald Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n

Diplomats: Keep the Line 5 Pipeline Flowing<\/strong><\/p>\n

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer\u2019s order to shut the Line 5 pipeline based on \u201cenvironmental concerns\u201d is \u201cthreatening\u201d US-Canadian relations, warn former US ambassador to Canada David Jacobson and ex-Canadian envoy Gary Doer at The Wall Street Journal<\/a>. \u201cYou don\u2019t have to look far to see the consequences of such a shutdown \u2014 the Eastern Seaboard just lived through\u201d them when the Colonial Pipeline halted operations. Line 5 supplies nearly half of Michigan\u2019s propane, 45 percent of Ontario and Quebec\u2019s fuel needs and thousands of jobs. In 2012, diplomats managed to resolve a similar dispute involving a bridge connecting Detroit and Ontario; President Biden, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Whitmer need to do likewise. \u201cMillions\u201d are depending on it for their \u201chomes, jobs and businesses.\u201d<\/p>\n

Foreign desk: How IDF Tricked Hamas<\/strong><\/p>\n

An Israel Defense Forces tweet last week announced that \u201cair and ground troops are currently attacking in the Gaza Strip<\/a>,\u201d and, smiles Jake Wallis Simons at Spectator USA<\/a>, \u201cnobody noted the careful ambiguity.\u201d Media<\/a> assumed that meant the IDF was preparing a ground invasion \u2014 and so did Hamas. The result: By evening, \u201cHamas fighters had prepared for battle, swarming into the metro tunnels and manning \u00adpositions in the open. Both those below and above ground were summarily wiped out by Israeli jets.\u201d Bonus: The trick siphoned Hamas fighters away from civilian centers, sparing innocent lives.<\/p>\n
