Eric Adams and Corey Johnson picked up new union endorsements this week in their respective races mayor and comptroller.<\/p>\n

The 30,000-member Home Healthcare Workers of America on Thursday threw its weight behind Adams, the current Brooklyn borough president, in the hotly contested Democratic primary for mayor.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Tenants PAC, which advocates for more than 1 million rent-regulated apartment dwellers, Wednesday night endorsed Johnson Wednesday night the current city council speaker, in the Democratic primary for comptroller.<\/p>\n

Tenants PAC also selected Brooklyn Councilman Brad Lander \u2014 who has been criticized for speeding in school zones \u2014 as its second choice for comptroller under the new ranked choice voting system.<\/p>\n

Early on during the pandemic, some 30,000 home health aides were deemed as essential workers responsible for entering the homes and caring for the city\u2019s infirm elderly residents.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe next four years will chart the path for the city in a way I am not sure any four-year period has. The recovery from COVID is a major piece to that, but so is public safety, so is public transportation, so is dealing with housing issues, so is making sure small businesses are able to open,\u201d said Home Healthcare Workers union vice president Joe Pecora.<\/p>\n

\u201cEric Adams has a plan to address all these issues, as well as the experience and know-how to translate that experience into results. We feel he is the best candidate for the job. He recognizes our workforce and its importance and he supports our union members\u2019 needs,\u201d said Pecora.<\/p>\n

The HHWA will also announce its endorsement to re-elect Queens Borough President Donovan Richards and City Councilwoman Adrienne Adams.<\/p>\n

Adams has earned the endorsement of some the city\u2019s largest and most influential unions \u2014 including District Council 37 representing municipal workers, SEIU 32BJ representing building workers, the Hotel Trades Council and the Transport Workers Union Local 100.<\/p>\n

Tenants PAC voted to make Corey Johnson its top choice and Brad Lander its second choice in the comptroller\u2019s race.<\/p>\n

\u201cCorey and Brad are both strong, progressive candidates and have proven themselves to be friends of tenants,\u201d said Tenants PAC treasurer MIchael McKee.<\/p>\n

\u201cCorey has put himself on the line for tenants, getting arrested with us blocking the entrance to Governor Cuomo\u2019s Albany office to protest his refusal to fight for stronger rent protections, and who has passed numerous pro-tenant bills during his tenure as City Council Speaker. Brad has been a steadfast tenant advocate before he was elected to the City Council and during his eight years there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Johnson and Lander were the only two candidates to fill out Tenants PAC\u2019s questionnaire, a prerequisite for an endorsement interview.<\/p>\n

Johnson also has won the lion\u2019s share of major labor endorsements in the comptroller\u2019s race, but Lander has won the backing of lefty firebrand Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
