src=\"https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/cristina-yang-greys-anatomy.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<div> <em>Grey\u2019s Anatomy<\/em> fans nearly went code blue when Sandra Oh recently ruled out a return to the ABC medical drama with an emphatic \u201cno.\u201d But we shouldn\u2019t be so surprised. Oh, now starring on BBC America\u2019s <em>Killing Eve<\/em> and Netflix\u2019s upcoming <em>The Chair<\/em>, has spent years telling us not to expect another glimpse of Dr. Cristina Yang, the role she left behind in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Even so, it seems every interviewer is contractually obligated to ask Oh if she\u2019ll come back to the role that earned her five consecutive Emmy nominations. (The actress even started one of her responses to that question with \u201cI wish I had a dollar\u2026\u201d)<\/p>\n<p>And even though she has <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/video\/actors-on-actors-sandra-oh-kerry-washington-full-conversation\/\">expressed frustrations with her time on the hit series<\/a>, Oh always expresses gratitude for the job and its legacy. In fact, the number of times she\u2019s asked <em>that<\/em> question just proves what a mark Dr. Yang made on the primetime TV landscape. \u201cIt\u2019s very rare, I would say, to be able to see in such a way the impact of a character,\u201d she said in her new interview on <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/tv\/story\/2021-05-11\/sandra-oh-greys-anatomy-killing-eve-asian-enough\">the <em>Asian Enough<\/em> podcast<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"October_2013_%E2%80%9CI_would_love_to_come_back%E2%80%9D\"><\/span>October 2013: \u201cI would love to come back.\u201d<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Sandra Oh Talks Grey&#039;s Anatomy Season 10 and 200th Episode\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6oFtsXnXFVM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cEventually, it will have to come to a close. I told her, \u2018If you guys want to finish it out however you want to finish it out, I\u2019d be more than happy to come back. And if it doesn\u2019t fit in that way, I totally understand. I just want you to know that I\u2019m available.\u2019 Who knows! You know what I mean? It\u2019s like I\u2019ve moved on in my relationship and am so committed to this character and this show. Yeah, that\u2019s where I feel like my focus and my passion is. \u2026 I will say it\u2019s hard to beat that ending, because what I also realize is that it keeps it open in so many ways where you can continue on having that relationship with Cristina. I\u2019m not sure. I guess I can\u2019t really answer it either way where I\u2019m sitting right now, because I\u2019m so committed to Eve. The idea of stepping back into the Cristina shoes, it doesn\u2019t feel right to me right now. I\u2019m just going to put that down there because it\u2019s been four years since then, and I\u2019ve really got to try and create much more of that separation, even though I could just talk on and on and on about that show and what I feel like I learned from it and continue learning from it. I really love her. I also love Cristina Yang. I\u2019m constantly stunned at the response I still get from [<em>Grey\u2019s<\/em> fans], you know? It\u2019s so fantastic, and it pleases me. It gives me a tremendous amount of satisfaction that, you know, you did work that actually continues going on past the time that you\u2019ve left it\u2026 It\u2019s really phenomenal. And the only way that I think I can continue doing good work is just staying true to my own compass.
