The streaming giant has ordered three new animated projects from Asian-American creators, one of which includes an animated film based on\u00a0China\u2019s famous legend <em>Journey to the West\u00a0<\/em>(AKA the inspiration for\u00a0<em>Dragon Ball<\/em>) from executive producer\u00a0<strong>Stephen Chow<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jane Lee<\/strong>, the manager of Netflix Animation, announced the three new animated projects that will put \u201cAsian American protagonists front and center for kids around the world to enjoy.\u201d One is the animated film\u00a0<strong><em>The Monkey King<\/em><\/strong>, and the next two are animated <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> \u2014 the\u00a0CG action <strong><em>Mech Cadets<\/em><\/strong>, and 2D animated comedy adventure <strong><em>Boons and Curses<\/em><\/strong>.<br \/>\n<!-- SlashFilm_300x250_In_Post -->\u201cWe\u2019re owning our own characters and our own fantastical universes rooted in the beautiful cultures we hail from,\u201d Lee said in her statement. Lee\u2019s announcement came with the first key art from all three projects, which you can see below.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Monkey_King\"><\/span>The Monkey King<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-672550\" src=\"https:\/\/d13ezvd6yrslxm.cloudfront.net\/wp\/wp-content\/images\/The-Monkey-King-min-700x295.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"295\" srcset=\"https:\/\/d13ezvd6yrslxm.cloudfront.net\/wp\/wp-content\/images\/The-Monkey-King-min.jpg 700w, https:\/\/d13ezvd6yrslxm.cloudfront.net\/wp\/wp-content\/images\/The-Monkey-King-min-360x152.jpg 360w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Set to premiere on Netflix in 2023,\u00a0<em>The Monkey King<\/em> is an animated action-comedy movie produced by Stephen Chow, the filmmaker and star behind such martial arts comedy classics as\u00a0<em>Kung Fu Hustle<\/em> and\u00a0<em>Shaolin Soccer<\/em>.\u00a0Inspired by the enduring Chinese legend <em>Journey to the West<\/em> (which has served as inspiration for shows such as\u00a0<em>Dragon Ball<\/em>), <em>The Monkey King<\/em>\u00a0\u201ctells the story of a very special Monkey, and his magical fighting Stick, who team up to fight against gods, demons, dragons, and the greatest enemy of all, Monkey\u2019s own hubris!\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cThe Monkey King has endured for generations with his unique character and spirit,\u201d Chow said in a statement. \u201cI\u2019m so excited to be collaborating with Tony, Peilin, and everyone at Netflix to bring this joyful tale to audiences worldwide.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><em>The Monkey King<\/em> is set to star an all-Asian voice cast including Jimmy O. Yang, Bowen Yang, Jolie Hoang-R<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>aport, Jo Koy, Ron Yuan, Hoon Lee, Stephanie Hsu, Andrew Pang, Andrew Kishino, Jodi Long, James Sie and BD Wong. With Boons and Curses I want to turn that hyphen from a wall into a bridge, not just for me, but for anybody who has ever felt that they were caught between two worlds. Using the beauty of South Asian mythology, folktales, and culture, our talented and passionate crew is so eager to share an exciting and hilarious adventure that can resonate with everyone the world over.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Here\u2019s the logline:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">In the magical land of Maya, a cosmic war is on the horizon. Studios comic series\u00a0<em>Mech Cadet Yu<\/em> by\u00a0Greg Pak and Takeshi Miyazawa. Set to premiere on Netflix in 2023,\u00a0<em>Mech Cadets<\/em> is set 50 years in the future \u201cafter a terrifying alien species attacked our planet, teenager Stanford Yu works as a janitor at the Sky Corps Military Academy. But he\u2019s only dreamed of one thing his entire life \u2014 to pilot a Robo Mech, giant robots from outer-space who came to our aid. When he finally gets his shot, Stanford and his classmates must put aside all personal differences and work together as a team in order to defend humanity against a new invasion of aliens.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The series is executive produced by Boom! Studios and will be animated by Japanese 3DCG studio Polygon Pictures, which is behind such series as\u00a0<em>Star Wars: The Clone Wars<\/em> and Netflix\u2019s recent 3D\u00a0<em>Godzilla<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/anime-manga\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"6\" title=\"Anime || Manga\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">anime<\/a> films. The latter of which don\u2019t give me a lot of hope (those\u00a0<em>Godzilla<\/em> anime movies are really ugly), but the concept art above at least looks decent.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Jack Liang, an executive of Polygon Pictures, said in a statement, \u201cIt is important for us to create stories that exemplify our teams\u2019 diverse voices and art as a studio based in Tokyo, Japan. As part of our mission \u2018to do what no other has done, in unparalleled quality, for all the world to see and enjoy\u2019 we are ecstatic to have alongside with us, our supervising director, Tohru Patrick Awa, writer and executive producer, Aaron Lam and our talented diverse team of writers, to visualize the wonderful story created by Greg Pak, Takeshi Miyazawa and Boom! Studios.
