The hotly anticipated \u201cFriends\u201d reunion special, which hits HBO Max on Thursday, May 27, was \u201cemotional\u201d to film, Lisa Kudrow said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was every emotion,\u201d Kudrow, 57, told the Post. \u201cIt was a lot of laughing and then real blubbering \u2014 which, I don\u2019t know if that will be in there, but the puffy eyes are in there, so that\u2019s good. It was an emotionally exhausting and great few days.\u201d<\/p>\n

Called \u201cFriends: The Reunion,\u201d the special reunites the stars of the hit sitcom, which aired from 1994-2004 on NBC. The special was originally scheduled to be part of HBO Max\u2019s launch in May of 2020 \u2014 but after getting delayed by the pandemic, it\u2019s finally premiering one year later.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Kudrow, who rose to fame starring as the eccentric Phoebe Buffay, will be joined by Jennifer Aniston who played fashion-forward Rachel, Courteney Cox, who played uptight Monica, Matt LeBlanc, who played flirty Joey, Matthew Perry, who played sarcastic Chandler, and David Schwimmer, who played neurotic Ross.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The cast members won\u2019t app<\/a>ear in character, Kudrow said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s completely unscripted. It\u2019s us seeing each other and they rebuilt the sets on [the show\u2019s original Warner Bros soundstage] Stage 24. It\u2019s done really well, too. But it\u2019s us, and also just cutting around \u2014 there are clips and things.\u201d<\/p>\n

For instance, Kudrow said, the cast will be viewing some video footage chronicling their time on the series<\/a> that they hadn\u2019t seen before.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt turns out [a crew member] was taking home movies that I didn\u2019t know about, and that was brilliant [to see]. There\u2019s so much great stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the special, the core cast will reunite on the iconic \u201cFriends\u201d sets such as the gang\u2019s infamous coffee shop hang-out spot Central Perk, Monica and Rachel\u2019s improbably spacious purple-walled apartment, and Joey and Chandler\u2019s bachelor pad \u2014 complete with their reclining chairs.\u00a0<\/p>\n

As HBO Max has announced, they\u2019ll also be joined by a staggering who\u2019s who of famous guests, including David Beckham, BTS, James Corden, Cara Delevingne, Lady Gaga, Kit Harington, Mindy Kaling, Reese Witherspoon, Malala Yousafzai, and more.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s just a lot of surprises \u2014 like, things we weren\u2019t expecting,\u201d said Kudrow. \u201cPeople showing up that we were surprised by. There\u2019s a lot going on in it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Some of the special guests were particularly shocking to the \u201cFriends\u201d cast.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI was like, \u2018Wait, that\u2019s Justin Bieber<\/a>. Right? Would he be here? Is he here? He\u2019s really here; that\u2019s Justin Bieber!\u201d said Kudrow. \u201cThat was kind of exciting. I\u2019m throwing in a \u2018kind of\u2019 so that I seem a little cooler. It was <\/em>exciting. I don\u2019t get excited about meeting people \u2014 but Justin Bieber, he\u2019s exciting.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kudrow said she\u2019s grateful that \u201cFriends\u201d made its cast famous in the \u201890s and early 2000s.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI think we\u2019re always glad about the way things happened when they did. Because if it were now, it would be overwhelming with social media<\/a> and everything else. But even in the \u201890s you had to make an effort like \u2018Don\u2019t look yourself up on the internet! You won\u2019t like it.\u2019\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
