“#How to Get the iMac\u2019s \u201cHello\u201d Screen Saver on Your Mac”<\/strong><\/p>\n

The redesigned 2021 iMac<\/a>\u00a0includes an \u201cexclusive\u201d new screen saver reminiscent of the iconic 1984 Macintosh\u2019s \u201cHello\u201d imagery<\/a>. If you have a Mac or Macbook running macOS Big Sur 11.3 or later, you can install the Hello screen saver on your computer. Here\u2019s how.<\/p>\n

Start by opening Finder on your Mac. You can find a shortcut to App<\/a>le\u2019s built-in file explorer in the dock.<\/p>\n

Next, with a Finder window open, click the \u201cGo\u201d tab in the menu bar at the top of your screen. From there, select the \u201cGo to Folder\u201d option.<\/p>\n

Type or copy and paste the following file path into the text box that appears:<\/p>\n

\/System\/Library\/Screen Savers\/<\/code><\/p>\n

Click the \u201cGo\u201d button to proceed.<\/p>\n

You\u2019ll now be in your Mac\u2019s screen saver menu. As long as you\u2019re running macOS Big Sur 11.3 or higher, you will find \u201cHello.saver\u201d in the list of options. Drag the file to your Desktop.<\/p>\n

Next, either navigate to the Desktop folder in Finder or locate the screen saver file on your actual Desktop.<\/p>\n

Before you can add the screen saver to your Mac, you need to rename the file. To do this, right-click the file and choose the \u201cRename\u201d option. We changed the name to Hello-screen.saver<\/code>.<\/p>\n

Note:<\/strong> If you don\u2019t rename the screen saver file, your Mac will throw an error message claiming it\u2019s already installed. This is despite the fact that the Hello screen saver does not appear in your Mac\u2019s Display settings.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

You can now double-click the screen saver file. A message will pop up asking if you\u2019d like to install it on your computer. Select the \u201cInstall\u201d button.<\/p>\n

As you\u2019re installing something and making changes to your computer, you\u2019ll need to authenticate yourself securely. Do so by typing in your Mac\u2019s password or using your Apple Watch (if you\u2019ve set up that feature). Click \u201cOK\u201d to finish the setup process.<\/p>\n

The 2021 iMac\u2019s \u201cHello\u201d screen saver is now installed on your Mac or MacBook. If the Screen Saver settings page didn\u2019t load automatically, you can locate it by navigating to System Preferences > Desktop & Screen Saver and switching to the \u201cScreen Saver\u201d tab.<\/p>\n

Select and highlight the \u201cHello\u201d option from the list to make it your Mac\u2019s default screen saver. You can also click the \u201cScreen Saver Options\u201d button to customize its look.<\/p>\n

\"Select<\/p>\n

From the pop-up window, you can swap between three different themes (Soft Tones, Spectrum, Minimal, or a combination of all three), choose to have the \u201cHello\u201d phrase spelled out in multiple languages, and match the screen saver to your Mac\u2019s system appearance.<\/p>\n

Click the \u201cOK\u201d button to save any changes you make.<\/p>\n

Finally, see the Hello screen saver in action by clicking on the Apple logo in the top-left corner of your Mac or MacBook\u2019s screen and then selecting \u201cSleep.\u201d<\/p>\n
