predicts another busy Atlantic hurricane season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#NOAA predicts another busy Atlantic hurricane season<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The U.S. is likely to be hit with another \u201cabove-normal\u201d\u00a0Atlantic hurricane season\u00a0in 2021.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At a virtual briefing on Thursday,\u00a0National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)\u00a0forecasters\u00a0predicted a likelihood of 13 to 20 total named storms.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the agency said six to 10 of those named storms were likely to become hurricanes, with wind speeds of 39 mph or higher.<\/p>\n<p>Three to five of those named storms are likely to become major hurricanes, which are defined as Category 3, 4, or 5 with winds of 74 mph or higher.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, NOAA said there was just a 10% chance the season would be \u201cbelow-normal,\u201d 30% it would be \u201cnear-normal\u201d and 60% it would be \u201cabove-normal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.noaa.gov\/media-release\/noaa-predicts-another-active-atlantic-hurricane-season\">In a news release<\/a>, NOAA said that it had\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.noaa.gov\/media-release\/average-atlantic-hurricane-season-to-reflect-more-storms\">updated the statistics\u00a0<\/a>used to determine hurricane seasons\u2019 categorizations relative to the most current\u00a0climate record.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Based on the update, an average hurricane season would produce 14 named storms, including seven hurricanes and three major hurricanes.<\/p>\n<p>The NOAA release also noted that El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO) conditions are currently in the neutral phase, with the possibility of the return of La Nina later in the season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cENSO-neutral and La Nina support the conditions associated with the ongoing high-activity era,\u201d Matthew Rosencrans, lead seasonal hurricane forecaster at\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov\/\">NOAA\u2019s Climate Prediction Center<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.noaa.gov\/media-release\/noaa-to-announce-2021-atlantic-hurricane-season-outlook-on-may-20\">one of the briefing\u2019s speakers<\/a>, reportedly said. \u201cPredicted warmer-than-average sea surface temperatures in the tropical Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea, weaker tropical Atlantic trade winds, and an enhanced\u00a0west African\u00a0monsoon will likely be factors in this year\u2019s overall activity.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The release noted that NOAA\u00a0scientists\u00a0are continuing to study\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.climate.gov\/news-features\/understanding-climate\/climate-change-probably-increasing-intensity-tropical-cyclones\">how climate change is impacting<\/a>\u00a0the strength and frequency of tropical cyclones.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>NOAA said that it did not expect \u201cthe historic level of storm activity seen in 2020.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The agency said it reported the ranges with a \u201c70% confidence.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Last year was record-breaking, with\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/the-biggest-wildest-moments-for-weather-in-2020\"><u>30 named storms<\/u><\/a>\u00a0and 12 landfalling storms in the continental U.S.<\/p>\n<p>The most storms on record were tallied in 2020, surpassing a total of\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/weather\/2015\/08\/24\/2005-hurricane-season-katrina\/32269245\/\"><u>28 in 2005<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Atlantic hurricane season\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nhc.noaa.gov\/\">officially begins on June 1<\/a>\u00a0and runs through Nov. 30.<\/p>\n<p>However, the last six Atlantic hurricane seasons have\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/2021-hurricane-season-names-dates\">started early<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News<\/a> that the agency would coordinate with NOAA\u2019s National Hurricane Center in addition to state and local officials to best prepare residents who might be affected by hurricanes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe National Hurricane Center has been a great partner with FEMA for the longest period of time, right? And so, we work together collectively to make sure that we are getting consistent messaging out to state and local jurisdictions,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut, a big piece of that as well, from the FEMA point of view, is that we work very closely with our state partners and our local partners as they are doing their preparedness efforts getting ready for this hurricane season,\u201d Criswell said. \u201cAnd then, when we do see a storm that has the potential for landfall or impact, the National Hurrican Center along with FEMA work collectively to make sure that we are getting the right messaging out so people can prepare <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ropriately and take action as early as we need them to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>NOAA said it would provide an update on the Atlantic outlook in August just before the season\u2019s peak.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough NOAA scientists don\u2019t expect this season to be as busy as last year, it only takes one storm to devastate a community,\u201d Ben Friedman, acting NOAA administrator, said in a statement. \u201cThe forecasters at the National Hurricane Center are well-prepared with significant upgrades to our computer models, emerging observation techniques, and the expertise to deliver the life-saving forecasts that we all depend on during this, and every, hurricane season.\u201d\n            <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
