App<\/a>arently, vampires\u00a0live under the water.<\/a><\/p>\n

An unusual-looking fish is reportedly making a comeback in the\u00a0American River, as divers said they recently spotted the creature twice in California.<\/p>\n

Sacramento CBS<\/a>\u00a0reported the divers spotted the so-called vampire fish (Pacific lamprey) in the American River, a waterway that runs for 30 miles near Sacramento.<\/p>\n

According to experts, the lamprey had disappeared from the waterway but it now appears to be making a comeback. The odd-looking fish are known for their mouth, which resembles a suction cup full of teeth.<\/p>\n

Karl Bly filmed one of the encounters with the lamprey and posted the footage to the\u00a0American River Lost<\/a>\u00a0and Found page, which he runs.<\/p>\n

He wrote, \u201cVideoed the second Lamprey of the Season and the second one I\u2019ve seen in 30 years\u2026. just a peaceful swim.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bly told reporters that he hasn\u2019t seen a full-grown lamprey in the American River in decades,\u00a0Newsweek\u00a0reports<\/a>. He did say that he\u2019s had sporadic sightings of babies, but nothing has come close to the 24-inch lamprey he recently spotted.<\/p>\n

According to a California Department of Fish and Wildlife official, lampreys make their way to the ocean after hatching. There, they attach themselves to a larger animal, like a dolphin, shark or whale, and then feed off of the larger host.<\/p>\n

The official clarified that lampreys are not considered dangerous to humans. They will usually return to freshwater locations when it\u2019s time to lay eggs.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
