{"id":256589,"date":"2021-05-22T22:09:34","date_gmt":"2021-05-22T19:09:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/long-suffering-knicks-fans-ride-superstitions-into-nba-playoffs\/"},"modified":"2021-05-22T22:09:34","modified_gmt":"2021-05-22T19:09:34","slug":"long-suffering-knicks-fans-ride-superstitions-into-nba-playoffs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/long-suffering-knicks-fans-ride-superstitions-into-nba-playoffs\/","title":{"rendered":"#Long-suffering Knicks fans ride superstitions into NBA playoffs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Long-suffering Knicks fans ride superstitions into NBA playoffs<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>On Sunday, 13-year-old Cassidy Berger will head to Madison Square Garden for Day 2 of the NBA playoffs wearing his Immanuel Quickley jersey \u2014 and he has no plans to take it off for a while.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will wear \u00a0it the rest of the playoff run,\u201d Cassidy told The Post of the shirt, which his father, Ryan, bought when the Knicks played the Atlanta Hawks \u2014 the same team they are up against on Sunday. \u201cI got it during the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a> when they beat the Hawks and started a seven-game winning streak.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s\u00a0not his only superstition.<\/p>\n<p>His family\u2019s Short Hills, NJ, basement is tricked out with five side-by-side TV screens for viewing sports \u2014 but he and his sisters can only watching the Knicks on the largest, which measures 85 inches. \u201cIf we are watching from home, we have to have them on the big screen. No matter what,\u201d Cassidy said. \u201cI do it for good luck so they win. They are so good this year, and fun to watch.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Knicks are making their first playoff <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>earance since 2013, giving the long-suffering fanbase a sense of something unfamiliar: hope. It\u2019s enough to make many of them turn to rituals, superstitions and good-luck charms to keep the Knickerbocker mojo flowing.<\/p>\n<p><!--If the slideshow is embedded in another post type add the inline wrapper --><\/p>\n<p>Jamil Thomas is doing his part to prop up the team\u2019s fortune by never repeating\u00a0what he wears to games \u2014 which isn\u2019t easy since the season ticket holder hits about 50 a year, both at MSG and on the road.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven though the Knicks sucked for years, I thought if I wore the same thing it would be bad luck,\u201d Thomas, 36, told The Post.<\/p>\n<p>The Bronx native has a stockpile of vintage Knicks gear, some of which he was passed down from his father, who finally gave up on the franchise when Charles Oakley was banned from MSG in 2017 following an altercation with team owner Jim Dolan. Each week, Thomas goes to his storage unit, which houses more than 50 different pairs of Patrick Ewing Adidas, and plans his looks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt can get a little pricey, but you have to up the ante,\u201d said Thomas, who works for a non-profit.<\/p>\n<p>His look for Sunday? \u201cIt\u2019s going to be a straight Ewing jersey and a hat. In her honor, the Bronx native and season ticket holder always wears a bracelet emblazoned with the phrase \u201c#winforGianna.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would freak out if I didn\u2019t have the bracelet on,\u201d said Donohue, who thinks his late sibling might have something to do with the team\u2019s success.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Knicks have been horrible, and all of a sudden we\u2019re one of the top teams in the East,\u201d he said. \u201cOne of my friends sent me a text that said, \u2018I swear G is on some \u201cAngels in the Outfield\u201d type s\u2013t.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Upper East Sider John Broder\u2019s good-luck totem is as uncomfortable as being a lifelong Knicks fan: a mane that stretches to the middle of his back. The 46-year-old regularly grows out his hair to cut and donate to charity.
