Yes, Bennifer is back, but mere mortals are also having romantic reunions with long-lost flames. <\/p>\n

Things are said to be heating up<\/a> between Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez, who were engaged in 2002, after just four months of dating, but split in 2004. This month, they stepped\u00a0out together<\/a>, offering fresh hope to romantics everywhere about the possibility of reconnecting with \u201cthe One\u201d years, or even decades, after a breakup. <\/p>\n

Maura Jurgrau certainly knows it can happ<\/a>en. In the early \u201990s, the Upper East Sider was a carefree 20-something when she took a boat cruise with friends up the Hudson River and locked eyes with a stranger, Andrew Pearce. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt was like a bolt of lightning,\u201d said Jurgrau, who was attached to a boyfriend at the time.<\/p>\n

Still, she couldn\u2019t shake the sparks she felt with the cute Canada-based computer graphics specialist. <\/p>\n

\u201cThere was an incredible chemistry with Andrew that I couldn\u2019t ignore,\u201d Jurgrau, now 56 and a part-time member of the fashion design faculty at FIT, told The Post. <\/p>\n

And so, when the boyfriend was out of the picture some months later, Jurgrau and Pearce embarked on a whirlwind romance for several weeks until Pearce had to return to Toronto.<\/p>\n

The two went their separate ways. Jurgrau went on to have a son, now 14, with a partner. Pearce entered a decadelong marriage that ended in 2010.<\/p>\n

But they never forgot each other.<\/p>\n

\u2018You can always look back with regret, but I had to grow into the person I am.\u2019<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\n

When a friend mentioned Pearce in 2018, Jurgrau took a leap of faith and emailed him, doubtful he\u2019d remember her. His response: \u201cDo I remember you? Of course!\u201d They\u2019ve been together ever since.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you\u2019re young, you don\u2019t exactly know who you are or what you want. I didn\u2019t put enough effort into it,\u201d said Pearce, now 59, who works in animation. \u201cYou can always look back with regret, but I had to grow into the person I am, someone who can make a more mature decision about what\u2019s important in a relationship.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jurgrau said that they both had to live their lives before they could really appreciate their connection. \u201cWe both agree now that we needed to each go through the crazy stuff and grow up [and have other] relationships and big jobs.\u201d<\/p>\n

For Gary Don, 57, and Marina Mashkovich, 48, timing was everything. <\/p>\n

The Brooklyn couple were married for about seven years but divorced amicably in 2012, after attending to sick parents and dealing with various life obstacles became too much.<\/p>\n

Then, about two years ago, Don ran into his former wife\u2019s nephew on the street about two years ago. After hearing she never remarried, he made major overtures to win her back. <\/p>\n

\u201cI started pursuing her,\u201d Don, an entrepreneur, told The Post. <\/p>\n

After a month of phone calls, Mashkovich, a nurse, agreed to go out with her ex-husband and was instantly smitten again. <\/p>\n

\u201cI wasn\u2019t looking to get into a relationship, but when you have your soulmate, something can happen. I feel he\u2019s part of me.\u201d <\/p>\n

The couple, who both live in Brighton Beach, say they have a better understanding of each other. \u201cHe appreciates me more than before, and he realizes I\u2019m an independent person,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n

Added Don: \u201cI don\u2019t take things for granted now. I\u2019m more sensitive now about how she\u2019s feeling.\u201d <\/p>\n

They\u2019re planning a wedding for later this year.<\/p>\n

While she doesn\u2019t think such relationship redos work for everyone, Manhattan matchmaker Bonnie Winston supports rekindled flames. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m all for reconnecting \u2014 you\u2019ve had time away from the person, so you\u2019ve probably worked on yourself,\u201d Winston said. \u201cSometimes, the relationships that you have had in between can give you great insight.\u201d<\/p>\n

The slow route can be the surest road for enduring love. <\/p>\n

Rachel Flynn, a 44-year-old professor, and Nathan Johnson, a 46-year-old firefighter, had a summer fling as college students in 1997. Their fledgling relationship fizzled fast once fall semester started up. <\/p>\n

They started texting and met in person a short while later. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe wanted to see if there was something more than friendship there,\u201d Flynn told The Post. <\/p>\n

The couple married last year, and now live in Reno, Nevada.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur marriage \u2014 and how amazing it is \u2014 is only because of all those years and experiences [apart],\u201d Flynn said. <\/p>\n

As for Jurgrau and Pearce, they still sometimes can\u2019t believe their improbable reunion. <\/p>\n

\u201cThis wasn\u2019t what I was expecting,\u201d Pearce said. \u201cI thought I\u2019d be single the rest of my life \u2014 but I found my sweetheart. I don\u2019t plan to lose her twice.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
