\n Jalen Rose loved assigning nicknames to his former teammates. But the ESPN analyst feels he hit a home run years back when he assigned new Knicks executive William Wesley the moniker \u201cWorld Wide Wes.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s my favorite nickname I\u2019ve tagged someone and was validated when Jay-Z and Drake used it in a song,\u201d in 2013\u2019s \u201cPound Cake\/Paris Morton Music 2,\u2019\u2019 Rose told The Post. \u201cI started calling him that and other people started to call him that and it became his nickname. He\u2019s a mover and shaker.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

Rose, who is from Michigan, ran across Wesley a lot because Detroit was one of Wesley\u2019s bases.<\/p>\n

\u201cWes was on the floor during \u2018The Malice at the Palace\u2019 trying to break it up,\u2019\u2019 Rose said.<\/p>\n

Wesley never held an official title at Creative Artists Agency but ran Creative Artists Agency\u2019s basketball department\u2019s coaching division under Leon Rose, who is now Knicks president. Before that, Wesley reportedly recruited players for sneaker companies.<\/p>\n

So how did the nickname come about?<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m sitting on a Delta flight and they\u2019re holding a plane for somebody,\u2019\u2019 Rose said. \u201c[Wesley] comes strolling on the plane, not rushing, talking on the phone, holding food. I\u2019m like, \u2018Really it\u2019s like that.\u2019 I\u2019m laughing and started calling him that. He\u2019s moving and shaking. He\u2019s \u2018WWW\u2019 \u2014 like on the internet.\u201d<\/p>\n

The recent addition of Steve Stoute as a branding consultant \u2014 along with Wesley \u2014 has the Knicks on the right track toward changing a battered image. Rose cited Stoute and Wesley being black as critical.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a culture and change going to take place in a lot of industries as we continue to pull back the onion in a lot of scenarios and realize the systemic racism in corporate America,\u2019\u2019 Rose said. \u201cSteve Stoute and World Wide Wes are put in a category as so well established in industry, culture and respected for their intellect and connecting people to greatness.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd the genius move they did was keeping Scott Perry [as GM]. It was the quiet move but the smart move, a basketball move. But I believe they will be able to attract talent and sell them on playing in New York City for the Knicks. \u2026 When you walk into that room, other than James Dolan and Leon, four out of the six will be black, and it\u2019s going to say something to free agents.\u2019\u2019\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
