The\u00a0Hellraiser<\/em> <\/strong>remake has been summoned by Hulu. The streaming service just scooped up the\u00a0Spyglass Media<\/a> pic, which will be helmed by\u00a0The Night House<\/em> director David Bruckner<\/strong>. The film will be yet another adaptation of Clive Barke<\/strong>r\u2019s\u00a0The Hellbound Heart<\/em>, which Barker adapted himself into the 1987 film\u00a0Hellraiser<\/em>. The story involves\u00a0Cenobites, demonic S&M lovers who can be summoned to our world via a puzzle box known as the\u00a0Lemarchand Configuration.<\/p>\n

Bloody Disgusting<\/a> has the scoop that the\u00a0Hellraiser<\/em> remake from Spyglass Media is headed to Hulu. There\u2019s been plenty of talk about a\u00a0Hellraiser<\/em> remake\/reboot over the years. In 2019, it was revealed that David S. Goyer<\/strong> was involved with a remake. By 2020, we learned that David Bruckner, who directed the Netflix film\u00a0The Ritual<\/em> as well as the upcoming\u00a0The Night House<\/em>, would be helming. It\u2019s unclear at the moment if Goyer is still involved here, but Bruckner is still in the director\u2019s chair, working with a script<\/a> from his\u00a0Night House<\/em> writers\u00a0Ben Collins<\/strong> and Luke Piotrowski<\/strong>.
\nBeyond that, we\u2019re still in the dark about this one. Is it going to be a remake that once again tells the same story as the first film? Or will it go in a completely new direction? When Bruckner was first hired, THR<\/a> reported that his film would be \u201cloyal, yet evolved,\u201d whatever that means. In the original, \u201cSexual deviant Frank inadvertently opens a portal to hell when he tinkers with a box he bought while abroad. The act unleashes gruesome beings called Cenobites, who tear Frank\u2019s body apart. When Frank\u2019s brother and his wife, Julia, move into Frank\u2019s old house, they accidentally bring what is left of Frank back to life. Frank then convinces Julia, his one-time lover, to lure men back to the house so he can use their blood to reconstruct himself.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hulu seems as good a home as any for the film. And, as you might know, Disney owns Hulu, which means we can now start talking about whether or not Pinhead counts as a Disney Princess.\u00a0The Hulu\u00a0Hellraiser<\/em> reboot isn\u2019t the only\u00a0Hellraiser<\/em>-related material on the way. There\u2019s also a completely separate\u00a0Hellraiser<\/em> TV series<\/a> headed to HBO Max, with\u00a0David Gordon Green<\/strong> directing the pilot and several other episodes.\u00a0Michael Dougherty<\/strong>\u00a0(Trick \u2018r Treat<\/em>) and\u00a0Mark Verheiden\u00a0<\/strong><\/b>(Battlestar Galactica<\/em>) are handling writing duties, and\u00a0Hellraiser<\/em> creator Clive Barker is on board to executive produce. We don\u2019t know how much involvement \u2013 if any \u2013 Barker has with the remake, though. At the very least, I\u2019m sure he\u2019ll get some sort of credit, even if he has nothing to do with the finished product.<\/p>\n
