“#’This Is Us’ Showrunner Hints Season 5 Wraps Up ‘In a Different Way’<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Secrecy has always been the norm for the family drama\u2019s cast and crew, but redacted script<\/a> pages and extra precautions became necessary for the latest This Is Us <\/em>episode, exec producer Dan Fogelman says, given that Season 5 wraps up \u201cin a different way.\u201d<\/p>\n

Taking us into the last season (in 2019, NBC renewed This Is Us<\/i> through Season 6) has been \u201cyears in the making structurally,\u201d he hints. <\/span><\/p>\n

The big event, in present-day, is the wedding of superstar actor Kevin Pearson (Justin Hartley) and endearing Madison (Caitlin Thompson), mother of their newborn twins. The bride may not be close with her family, but the Pearsons are all present, with Kevin\u2019s stoic adopted brother Randall (Sterling K. Brown) as best man.<\/p>\n

After last season\u2019s monumental fight, the two have worked hard to move forward. \u201cYou\u2019re never going to put to bed some stuff, but they have recalibrated,\u201d says Fogelman. Kevin will need the support on his big day as he \u201ctries to orient the family and orient himself.\u201d<\/p>\n

The storyline set in the past \u2014 a slice of life for Pearson parents Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca (Mandy Moore) \u2014 is \u201ca little bit meta,\u201d Fogelman explains, since it concerns another TV show\u2019s season finale. Anyone remember 1985\u2019s Moldavian wedding massacre from Dynasty<\/i>?<\/p>\n

Having recorded the episode on her VCR, Rebecca is excited to finally watch\u2026but \u201cit may or may not have accidentally been taped over by Jack with a Pittsburgh Pirates game<\/a>,\u201d says Fogelman with a laugh.<\/p>\n
