Singer-rapp<\/a>er \u2014 and \u201creal-life Wakanda\u201d mastermind \u2014\u00a0Akon had his SUV stolen while he was fueling up the vehicle at a gas station in Atlanta Tuesday night, according to police reports.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt only takes a second for someone to jump in your vehicle and take off,\u201d reps for the Atlanta Police Department told their local Fox outlet<\/a> of the high-profile theft, which occurred just after midnight at the QuikTrip<\/a> facility in Buckhead. <\/p>\n

Police report that Akon, 48, was pumping gas on the passenger side of his Range Rover when someone reportedly jumped in the running automobile and sped away. Fortunately, the \u201cDon\u2019t Matter\u201d artist wasn\u2019t injured during the ordeal. <\/p>\n

The celebrity car theft comes a day after Atlanta City Councilwoman Natalyn Archibong proposed requiring city gas stations to equip all their pumps with continuous security cameras<\/a> to deter auto theft. Petrol purveyors would also need to install an emergency backup camera system, per the proposed legislation. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt [grand theft auto] is a common occurrence. It is not an anomaly,\u201d said the lawmaker. \u201cIt is a significant enough crime and a consistent enough crime that it warrants this intervention.\u201d<\/p>\n

In light of the shocking crime, police are reminding drivers not to leave their vehicles running while pumping gas, Fox News<\/a> reported. <\/p>\n

They also urge anyone with information on the Grammy nominee\u2019s stolen car to call the Atlanta Police Department. <\/p>\n

Is this a case of what goes around comes around? Akon \u2014 whose real name is Aliaune Damala Badara Akon Thiam \u2014 infamously claimed throughout the early 2000s that he spent four years in jail for his lead role in a notorious carjacking ring that specialized in stealing luxury vehicles, MTV reported.<\/a><\/p>\n

The \u201cLocked Up\u201d singer\u2019s outlandish rap sheet has since been debunked<\/a> \u2014 but the Kon artist was reportedly arrested in 1998 for stealing a BMW, according to court docs posted on the Smoking Gun<\/a>.\n <\/div>\n
