“#Joel McHale investigates \u2018Crime Scene Kitchen\u2019<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

His latest show is fresh out of the oven.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Joel McHale hosts \u201cCrime Scene Kitchen,\u201d a new reality baking competition series<\/a> where teams of chefs must \u201cdecode\u201d what type of dessert to whip up.<\/p>\n

\u201cI do very much love hosting and I love cooking,\u201d McHale, 49, told The Post.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd the production team that makes this also makes \u2018The Masked Singer\u2019 and \u2018I Can See Your Voice\u2019 and I enjoyed those shows,\u201d he said. \u201cTheir take on this \u2014 it being an unboxing and mystery show on top of being a baking show \u2014 I thought was a great idea. And then they get Curtis Stone and Yolanda Gampp, who are super-experts. Their knowledge terrifies me, and so I jumped at it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Premiering Wednesday, May 26 (9 p.m. on Fox), each episode follows chefs scouring a kitchen for \u201cclues\u201d on dishes that were previously baked. Based on their guesses, they re-create the treats for judges Chef Stone and cake artist Gampp and compete for a $100,000 grand prize.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Contestants] have two minutes minutes and there are clues like, \u2018Here\u2019s some cocoa powder, here\u2019s a fork that makes a pattern \u2014 go!\u2019 You\u2019ll be amazed at how much they get and how some of them completely miss it,\u201d said McHale.<\/p>\n

McHale, who\u2019s based in L.A. with his wife and kids, spends a lot of time in the kitchen himself.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t do a lot of baking,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u00a0do a lot of meat cooking, from fish to chicken to lots of steak, lamb, buffalo. I will say the skill level for baking is higher. Smoking a brisket takes precision, no doubt, but you can undercook a steak and if people want it more done, you can cook it a little more. But with cakes, if you screw up one part, forget it. And we saw that a number of times [on the show]. You won\u2019t believe what people pull off in just a couple of hours.\u201d<\/p>\n

Although McHale is known for both hosting and acting, he has no plans to turn his focus on just one.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI always really enjoyed game<\/a> shows, and there was always a rule in Hollywood that you couldn\u2019t do acting and hosting \u2014 especially game-show hosting. When I started hosting \u2018The Soup,\u2019 my actor friends were like \u2018I wouldn\u2019t do that!\u2019 and I was like \u2018I\u2019m doing it, it seems fun,\u2019\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThank God for Jamie Foxx and Alec Baldwin and Dwayne Johnson. They blew the model off the thing. I really enjoy it, and seeing people actually win money is deeply satisfying. I have a tiny little ball-bearing of a heart, and it makes it grow two sizes.\u201d<\/p>\n

McHale often works on several projects<\/a> at once and didn\u2019t slow down during the pandemic year \u2014 playing a superhero on The CW\u2019s \u201cStargirl,\u201d starring in the rom-com movie \u201cHapp<\/a>ily\u201d and reuniting with his \u201cCommunity\u201d co-stars for a table read, which ignited talks of a potential movie.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI think after that table read, that really sparked us seeing each other [more]. We all missed each other. If you had asked me a year ago, I would have said \u2018Forget it,\u2019 or like, \u2018Sure, a movie, yeah,\u2019\u201d said McHale. \u201cBut now I\u2019m like, \u2018Oh, this could happen!\u2019 But saying it could happen and then actually it happening for making a movie \u2014 there\u2019s a lot of steps. And, we need millions of dollars.\u201d<\/p>\n

McHale said he has no plans to slow down his perpetual juggling of projects.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is how I always have been. Growing up I had a weeding job, I made espresso, I folded sweatshirts, I was a dishwasher, on top of doing different sports all the time\u2026. I always had more than 1 thing going all the time,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m also an extreme extrovert, I\u2019m like four Golden Retrieversin one. I still to this day can\u2019t believe people are paying me to jump around on stage. I still get thrilled by that. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m waiting for the job police to come and take me away and make me get a real job.\u201d\u00a0\n <\/p><\/div>\n
