And he\u2019s back.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Late Show with Stephen Colbert\u201d will return to its pre-pandemic form in the Ed Sullivan theater with a full audience on June 14.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cA full audience of vaccinated folks\u201d will soon be \u201cenjoying one of the great comedia<\/a>ns fo our time,\u201d NYC mayor Bill de Blasio announced Monday in a press conference. \u201cThere\u2019s no stopping New York. There\u2019s no stopping Stephen Colbert.\u201d <\/p>\n

All guests on the show will need to present proof that they\u2019ve received the COVID-19 vaccine. The show\u2019s staff and crew members will still be tested for the virus regularly and monitored for symptoms, while face masks will be optional for audience members.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Ed Sullivan Theater has a capacity for more than 400 \u2014 making it the largest live audience of all the late night shows.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In his briefing, de Blasio added that \u201cso many others are going to be coming back soon.\u201d <\/p>\n

Since March of 2020, Colbert, 57, has taped the show remotely from his New Jersey home, ultimately creating a whopping 205 episodes this way. <\/p>\n

During this time, he coined it \u201cA Late Show\u201d rather than \u201cThe<\/em> Late Show.\u201d In August, the show returned to his home theater \u2014 but on a smaller set with a limited audience. <\/p>\n

Colbert follows in the footsteps of other shows that have returned after operating remotely, such as \u201cSNL\u201d and \u201cThe Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

This comes on the heels of the CDC announcement on May 13 that people who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 can ditch their masks in most circumstances.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cOver the last 437 days, my staff and crew (and family!) have amazed me with their professionalism and creativity as we made shows for an audience we couldn\u2019t see or hear,\u201d Colbert told the Hollywood Reporter<\/a>. \u201cI look forward to once again doing shows for an audience I can smell and touch.\u201d<\/p>\n
