“#DJ Khaled Explains How JAY-Z & Nas Dinner Plans Led To 'Sorry Not Sorry' Collab<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\nFormer rivals JAY-Z and Nas joined forces once again in April by way of DJ Khaled\u2019s \u201cSorry Not Sorry\u201d record that app<\/a>eared on his No. 1 album, Khaled Khaled.<\/em> Khaled had wanted to make the collaboration happen for almost half a decade, but he didn\u2019t have the guts to ask them until a celebrity link-up in Los Angeles changed everything.<\/p>\n

In a new interview with People,<\/a><\/em> DJ Khaled explained how a dinner with some of Hip Hop and R&B\u2019s elites gave him the sign he needed to put his dream into motion.<\/p>\n

\u201cMan, it was a dream come true for me, but also a gift to the world,\u201d he said. \u201cJust to be able to put that together was unbelievable. One day we were having dinner at Tao in L.A. and it was Mary J. Blige, Beyonc\u00e9, Nas, JAY-Z, Puff Daddy and more people were there. JAY-Z and Nas are my brothers, but that day, I [saw] them together just having the best conversations and it was all laughing, enjoying good energy and good vibes. So I\u2019ve always been wanting to make this record. So I\u2019d seen that and I said, \u2018Man, I can pull this off.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cIt took me I would say maybe four to five years to get the courage to ask. But I knew that day, that is possible, because I felt the love. I asked both of them [about] working on this album. And they were like, \u2018Let\u2019s do it.\u2019 The song is motivational and inspirational. That\u2019s what I love about it the most, because it\u2019s 2021 and these are two of our biggest MCs ever to do it. They\u2019re talking about motivation, inspiration, and where they\u2019re at in their life.\u201d<\/p>\n

DJ Khaled added, \u201cI want people to hear that as a historic collaboration. It\u2019s also inspiring to say, \u2018Man, our leaders, they came from nothing and look where they are now.\u2019 I think that was just beautiful. Not only to get them on the record, but just the lyrics.\u201d<\/p>\n

The James Fauntleroy-featured \u201cSorry Not Sorry\u201d peaked at No. 30 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and marked JAY-Z and Nas\u2019 first collaboration since \u201cBBC\u201d on Magna Carta Holy Grail<\/em> in 2013. Prior to that, they linked up in 2008 on Ludacris\u2019 \u201cI Do It for Hip Hop,\u201d Hov\u2019s American Gangster<\/em> song \u201cSuccess\u201d in 2007 and \u201cBlack Republican\u201d off Nas\u2019 2006 LP Hip Hop Is Dead<\/em>.<\/p>\n
