TBS News<\/a> in Japan and\u00a0the Twitter<\/a> account for Dirty Pair<\/strong><\/em> creator\u00a0Haruka Takachiho<\/strong>\u00a0reported<\/span><\/a>\u00a0on Tuesday that\u00a0mechanical designer\u00a0Kazutaka Miyatake’s <\/strong>house caught fire on May 22. Miyatake<\/strong> is\u00a0known for being a co-founder of Studio Nue (creators of Macross<\/strong><\/em>) and working on mechanical designs on series<\/a> such as\u00a0Space Battleship Yamat<\/strong><\/em>o,\u00a0Mobile Suit Gundam SEED<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0Miyatake<\/strong> survived the fire and is currently resting in a local hospital, but sadly his wife passed away.<\/p>\n

According to the TBS report, a call came into the fire department of Yokosuka City in Yokohama at 3 PM on May 22 from the house behind\u00a0Miyatake’s<\/strong>. Twelve\u00a0trucks app<\/a>eared at the scene and the fire was extinguished two hours later but the wooden house was partly destroyed. Investigators said the flames originated from the kitchen and were so intensive they will be launching a full investigation on how the fire started.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

The 71-year-old\u00a0Miyatake<\/strong>\u00a0(whose real last name is Watanabe)\u00a0was said to have escaped from the house on his own and while the firefighters were able to rescue his wife,\u00a0Tomoko Watanabe<\/strong>, the 60-year-old passed away at the hospital.\u00a0Miyatake<\/strong> is in a stable condition but is\u00a0suffering from smoke inhalation.<\/p>\n

TBS originally reported the news without the connection to\u00a0Kazutaka Miyatake<\/strong>‘s career, but\u00a0Haruka Takachiho<\/strong> confirmed the connection in his Twitter post (above).<\/p>\n

Haruka Takachiho<\/strong> sent his condolences<\/span><\/a> to Miyatake on Twitter, as well as asking people<\/span><\/a> to respect the privacy of him and Studio Nue by not contacting them for comments or queries.\u00a0<\/p>\n
