Christopher McDonald<\/strong>, one of those dependable character actors who might be best known for playing Shooter McGavin in\u00a0Happ<\/a>y Gilmore<\/em>, is the latest actor to join Marvel Studios\u2019\u00a0Secret Invasion<\/em> <\/strong>cast over at Disney+.<\/p>\n

Deadline has the scoop that Christopher McDonald is joining the\u00a0Secret Invasion<\/em> cast. As is usually the case with these sorts of announcements, we don\u2019t know who McDonald is playing, but the Deadline story says he\u2019ll likely be \u201ca newly created character that could cross over to the larger MCU, including appearing in movies<\/a> and other Disney+ limited series.\u201d McDonald is a great character actor with a ton of credits, including\u00a0Quiz Show<\/em>,\u00a0The Sopranos<\/em>,\u00a0The Perfect Storm<\/em>,\u00a0Requiem For a Dream<\/em>, and of course,\u00a0Happy Gilmore<\/em>, just to name a few.
\nSecret Invasion<\/em> is yet another Disney+ Marvel show, with a story based on the\u00a0Marvel Comics crossover event of the same name. The comic story involved \u201ca subversive, long-term invasion of Earth by the Skrulls, a group of alien shapeshifters who have secretly replaced many superheroes in the Marvel Universe with impostors over a period of years, prior to the overt invasion.\u201d But due to how the MCU has played out, the series likely won\u2019t be a direct adaptation of the comic book arc.<\/p>\n

Samuel L. Jackson<\/strong> is returning as Nick Fury, and\u00a0Captain Marvel<\/em> scene-stealer Ben Mendelsohn<\/strong> will also appear as\u00a0Skrull character Talos. The rest of the cast includes\u00a0Olivia Colman<\/strong>, Emilia Clarke<\/strong>, Kingsley Ben-Adir<\/strong>, and Killian Scott<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Speaking about the show with Collider<\/a>, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige<\/strong> said:<\/p>\n

\u201cI mean, we\u2019re interested in the political paranoia aspect of\u00a0Secret Invasion<\/em>\u00a0and really showcasing the stars with Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn, two amazing actors that you want to have in any series, and we\u2019re very lucky to have them for that. That\u2019s the sort of primary focus of that and, of course, it will tie into other things and the Skrulls in ways you haven\u2019t seen before, but yes, anything could be anything. Wise words\u2026 But we wanted to do that as a series because it would allow us to do something different than we\u2019ve done before.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Thomas Bezucha<\/strong> and Ali Selim<\/strong> are the director\u2019s helming the series, which is expected to consist of six episodes. There\u2019s no official release date just yet, but we can expect to see\u00a0Secret Invasion<\/em> on Disney+ sometime in 2022<\/strong>.
