Hasn\u2019t Hollywood had enough of this serial killer?<\/p>\n

Eyes rolled at the news<\/a> Wednesday that heartthrob Chad Michael Murray<\/a> would be cast as Ted Bundy<\/a> in yet another reimagining of the serial killer\u2019s life.<\/p>\n

The casting news comes just a couple years after Netflix viewers found Zac Efron<\/a> unnervingly hot as Bundy \u2014 the killer behind 30 known murders in the 1970s.<\/p>\n

Now, Murray is set to star as Bundy in \u201cAmerican Boogeyman,\u201d which \u201cfollows the elusive and charming killer and the manhunt that brought him to justice involving the detective and the FBI rookie who coined the phrase \u2018serial killer.\u2019 \u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Although fans are excited to see the 39-year-old \u201cOne Tree Hill\u201d star back on the screen, they don\u2019t seem too thrilled to be fed more serial killer content. <\/p>\n

Critics flocked to Twitter<\/a> to express their frustration about the new movie and its casting, questioning why another film about Bundy is being released. <\/p>\n

@fordholden<\/a> reacted to the Film Updates tweet announcing Murray\u2019s casting saying, \u201cwriting a movie about a woman who snaps and goes on a killing spree because she\u2019s so tired of movies<\/a> being made about ted bundy. for legal reasons i will not be saying it\u2019s based on a true story.\u201d<\/p>\n

Many Twitter users are so fed up with Bundy content they are pleading with Hollywood to stop the serial killer content. \u201cNO MORE TED BUNDY FILMS. I AM BEGGING. NO ONE NEEDS THIS MANY TED BUNDY FILMS. hollywood has really crossed the line \u2026 rewarding him with a legacy for murdering 30 innocent women,\u201d @buggirl<\/a> tweeted in a thread about the new film. <\/p>\n

Others disagree with the notion that Bundy capitalized on his good looks to lure women, with many mocking his looks and questioning him repeatedly being cast by attractive actors. The infamous serial killer has also been portrayed by Mark Harmon, Michael Reilly Burke, Billy Campbell, Cary Elwes, Corin Nemec, James Marsters and Adam Long.<\/p>\n

\u201cTed Bundy did not kill multiple women because he was extremely attractive stop trying to shove this concept down society\u2019s necks by having 5 documentaries and films every f\u2013king year and casting extremely attractive men to play him, it\u2019s weird at this point,\u201d wrote @rachelchinourir<\/a>, sharing photos of several actors who have portrayed the serial killer. <\/p>\n

True crime content has become increasingly popular with numerous new movies, series and podcasts giving viewers an inside look into murderous minds and intense investigations from a safe space. <\/p>\n

Netflix alone carries titles including \u201cThe Ted Bundy Tapes,\u201d \u201cExtremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile,\u201d \u201cNight Stalker,\u201d \u201cThe Ripper,\u201d \u201cThe Sons of Sam,\u201d \u201cUnabomber,\u201d \u201cDon\u2019t F**k With Cats\u201d and other true crime content. <\/p>\n

The notoriously good-looking murderous Menendez brothers have also had a resurgence in the media, with a new Hulu documentary and a new fan base of Gen Z TikTokers defending their homicidal actions. <\/p>\n

But today\u2019s obsession with serial killers is nothing new. Young girls used to line up outside the courthouse during Bundy\u2019s and the Menendez brothers\u2019 hearings and send them fan mail. All three men were even married while they were imprisoned. <\/p>\n

But Twitter users seem to be over their hybristophilia \u2014 a condition where one is sexually aroused by the object of their affection\u2019s wrongdoing \u2014 and are killing any ideas of sexy serial killers. <\/p><\/div>\n
