Cyrus Vance Jr. might be Donald Trump\u2019s worst enemy now, but back in November 2016, the Manhattan district attorney was full of gushing praise for the newly elected president and even offered his services on criminal-justice matters.<\/p>\n

In a letter delivered to Trump Tower one day after the 2016 election, Vance congratulates Trump for his \u201cextra\u00adordinary victory\u201d and for \u201cso expertly taking the pulse of the nation.\u201d<\/p>\n

He adds that Trump \u201ccan always call upon me\u201d when it comes to \u201claw-enforcement and criminal-justice issues.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a far cry from Vance\u2019s attitude toward Trump now that he is out of office. The DA is presiding over an aggressive criminal investigation into the former president\u2019s business affairs and reportedly has convened a grand jury to sit for six months.<\/p>\n

The letter, dated Nov. 9, 2016, was obtained by The Post from sources familiar with documents shared with the DA\u2019s office.<\/p>\n

\u201cDear Donald\/President-Elect,\u201d Vance wrote on his district attorney letterhead.<\/p>\n

\u201cCongratulations on your extraordinary victory. After so expertly taking the pulse of the nation, you now stand in position to move us forward.<\/p>\n

\u201cRealizing how important law-enforcement and criminal-justice issues are to you, please know that you or your staff can always call upon me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Vance ends by offering \u201cmy best to you and Melania, and to your beautiful family.\u201d<\/p>\n

Vance has announced he is not seeking re-election this year.<\/p>\n

His successor will inherit the two-year investigation in conjunction with state Attorney General<\/a> Letitia James\u2019 criminal probe into Trump\u2019s tax, property valuations and executive compensation, which has embroiled senior executives of the Trump Organization and their families.<\/p>\n

A spokesman for Vance said that while he supported Hillary Clinton for president in 2016, he had a \u201cstrong tradition of open intergovernmental relationships with all White Houses and federal justice policymakers irrespective of political party.\u201d<\/p>\n

A spokesman for Trump\u00a0 declined to comment but, in a press release, the former president blasted the parallel investigations as a \u201ccontinuation of the greatest Witch Hunt in American History.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBut the District Attorney and Attorney General are possessed \u2026 with destroying [my] political fortunes \u2026 because they don\u2019t want \u2018Trump\u2019 to run again.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
