“#My hellish night with ‘devil’ Prince<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Sin\u00e9ad O\u2019Connor was already a world-famous singer with a No. 1 record \u2014 but that didn\u2019t stop a man she barely knew from threatening to beat the crap out of her in broad daylight, chasing her around his car early one morning on an LA freeway.<\/p>\n

Making the situation even worse: The man in question was Prince<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The controversial Irish singer<\/a> tells the story of how they got to this point, among many other anecdotes from a bizarre and incredible<\/a> life in her new memoir, \u201cRememberings,\u201d<\/a> (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, June 1).<\/p>\n

O\u2019Connor, now 54, delves deep into the good, bad and the sad<\/a> (her mother abused her terribly as a child, once locking her in her room with no food and then leaving for the weekend).\u00a0<\/p>\n

She also includes the downright silly aspects of her life<\/a>, including an early stint as a \u201ckissogram girl,\u201d which found her \u201cturning up in a French maid outfit, saying a stupid poem in a dreadful French accent, and placing a pair of frilly French knickers on some poor dude\u2019s head\u201d for 25 quid.<\/p>\n

She recounts the first time she had her head shaved, and the horrified reaction of the Greek barber who spoke little English, exclaiming, \u201cPlease don\u2019t make me do this, your beautiful hair!\u201d before acquiescing in tears.<\/p>\n

But the book\u2019s most shocking tale is a night spent with musical icon Prince in 1990, nine months after she earned a No. 1 single for \u201cNothing Compares 2 You,\u201d which he had written and released years earlier, to no acclaim<\/a>, for his side project, the Family. (Meanwhile, O\u2019Connor\u2019s Grammy-nominated cover currently has more than 255 million views on YouTube<\/a>.)<\/p>\n
