The Offer<\/em><\/strong>, a Paramount+ limited series<\/a> about the making of\u00a0The Godfather<\/em>, has a new cast member.\u00a0Miles Teller<\/strong> is set to play producer\u00a0Al Ruddy<\/strong>, replacing Armie Hammer. Hammer was originally cast in the part, but left in the wake of sexual assault allegations.\u00a0The Offer<\/em> is actually one of two different projects that are covering the making of the iconic, Oscar-winning film. There\u2019s also a movie on the way called\u00a0Francis and the Godfather<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Deadline is reporting that Miles Teller has replaced Armie Hammer in\u00a0The Offer<\/em>, a new Paramount+ limited series about the making of\u00a0The Godfather<\/em>. Teller will play Al Ruddy, one of the producers of the film. Rudy also produced films such as\u00a0The Longest Yard<\/em>,\u00a0Cannonball Run<\/em>, and the upcoming Clint Eastwood movie\u00a0Cry Macho<\/em>.
\nThe Offer<\/em> will be a\u00a010-episode event series written and executive produced by Nikki Toscano<\/strong>, who will also serve as showrunner, and writer\u00a0Michael Tolkin<\/strong>.\u00a0Rocketman<\/em> filmmaker\u00a0Dexter Fletcher<\/strong> is directing some of the episodes. The real Al Ruddy will executive produce the series, and so will the newly-cast Teller.<\/p>\n

The series is \u201cbased on the Oscar-winning producer Ruddy\u2019s never before revealed experiences of making the iconic 1972 film that Francis Coppola directed and adapted with Mario Puzo from Puzo\u2019s bestselling mob novel, starring Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, James Caan, John Cazale, Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton and Talia Shire.\u201d As I mentioned above, this is one of two different projects that will cover the making of\u00a0The Godfather<\/em>.\u00a0Barry Levinson is directing a movie called\u00a0Francis and the Godfather<\/em>, with Oscar Isaac playing Coppola and Jake Gyllenhaal playing producer Robert Evans. There\u2019s no word yet who is playing those figures in\u00a0The Offer<\/em>.<\/p>\n

While\u00a0The Godfather<\/em> is rightly regarded as a masterpiece today, getting the film made was not exactly easy. Coppola was still an untested, relatively unknown filmmaker at the time, and he frequently clashed with producers over various decisions involving the project. Of course, we all know now that Coppola\u2019s instincts were correct, and he even came back to helm two sequels (Ruddy, for what it\u2019s worth, had no involvement with\u00a0The Godfather Part II<\/em> or\u00a0The Godfather Part III<\/em>, so make of that what you will).<\/p>\n

I\u2019m not sure we\u00a0need<\/em> two different projects dramatizing the making of\u00a0The Godfather<\/em>, but I\u2019m still curious to see how both of them turn out. I\u2019m also very curious to see who ends up playing the Godfather<\/em>\u2018s\u00a0famous cast members in both titles. Who do you cast as a young Al Pacino? Or Marlon Brando? Good luck with that, casting agents.<\/p>\n
