anti-Semitism<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The chancellor and provost of Rutgers University apologized Thursday for issuing a statement that denounced the recent surge in anti-Semitic attacks because he said it \u201cfailed to communicate support for our Palestinian community members.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The initial statement from Chancellor Christopher Molloy and Provost Francine Conway Wednesday <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/newbrunswick.rutgers.edu\/chancellor\/speaking-out-against-anti-semitism\">said they were<\/a> \u201csaddened by and greatly concerned about the sharp rise in hostile sentiments and anti-Semitic violence in the United States.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The Thursday statement, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/newbrunswick.rutgers.edu\/chancellor\/apology\">titled \u201cAn Apology,\u201d<\/a> included the message that \u201cour diversity must be supported by equity, inclusion, antiracism, and the condemnation of all forms of bigotry and hatred, including anti-Semitism and Islamophobia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs we grow in our personal and institutional understanding, we will take the lesson learned here to heart, and pledge our commitment to doing better,\u201d Molloy and Conway continued. \u201cWe will work to regain your trust, and make sure that our communications going forward are much more sensitive and balanced.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Earlier Thursday, the Rutgers chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine issued a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1-7bFj8JiHKuCLC0PkyBn19DW1Bmx3asXQHz7rMK2hkY\/edit\">lengthy denunciation<\/a> of Molloy and Conway\u2019s initial statement.<\/p>\n<div University<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The group said the statement \u201ccannot be separated from widespread attempts to conflict antizionism [sic] with antisemitism [sic] and derail Palestinian voices and activism \u2026 it isolates them and shows that Rutgers does not stand with or support them in their struggle for freedom and liberation, and contributes to the racism efforts of zionists [sic] to erase Palestinian identity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A second statement from Students for Justice in Palestine posted Friday similarly panned Molloy and Conway\u2019s \u201capology,\u201d saying it \u201cpersists on the nonnecessity<br \/>of actually supporting Palestinian students, faculty and allies as we grieve, organize, and resist the Zionist occupation of Palestine. Jews are wealthy &amp; successful and therefore cannot be victims of bigotry. Oppressors cannot be oppressed. Pathetic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnder pressure, the Rutgers chancellor *apologized* for condemning the surge of anti-Semitic violence,\u201d Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TomCottonAR\/status\/1398274881305858054?\">noted on Twitter<\/a>. \u201cHow can someone this weak lead a university?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rutgers reps did not im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely respond to requests for comment from the Post Friday night, nor did representatives of Rutgers Hillel or Rutgers Chabad.\n            <\/p><\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
