President Biden dropped an ominous note into his remarks to American service members at a Virginia military base Friday, telling them that his Chinese counterpart believes Beijing will \u201cown America\u201d inside the next 15 years.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re in a battle between democracies and autocracies,\u201d Biden told troops at Joint Base Langley Eustis in Hampton. \u201cThe more complicated the world becomes, the more difficult it is for democracies to come together and reach consensus.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve spent more time with President Xi [Jinping] of China than any world leader has \u2014 for 24 hours of private meetings with him with just an interpreter, 17,000 miles travel<\/a>ing with him in China and here,\u201d the president added. \u201cHe firmly believes that China, before the year [20]30, \u201935, is going to own America because autocracies can make quick decisions.\u201d<\/p>\n

The president did not elaborate on what was meant by \u201cown America.\u201d He made no other mention of China during his 23-minute remarks. <\/p>\n

\u201cAmerica is unique. From all nations in the world, we\u2019re the only nation organized based on an idea \u2026\u201d Biden said in the address. \u201cNone of you get your rights from your government; you get your rights merely because you\u2019re a child of God. The government is there to protect those God-given rights. No other government has been based on that notion. No one can defeat us except us.\u201d<\/p>\n

After opening his speech with an emotional remembrance of his late son Beau, who served in the Iraq War, the president discussed the final withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou all just showed up and did your job, and it helped make sure there hasn\u2019t been another attack on the homeland from Afghanistan for the last 20 years,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd you never gave up until we delivered justice to Osama bin Laden.\u201d<\/p>\n

Later in his remarks, Biden claimed that \u201cthe greatest threat and likelihood of attack from al Qaeda or ISIS is not going to be from Afghanistan; it\u2019s going to be from five other regions of the world that have significantly more presence of both al Qaeda and organizational structures, including ISIS.\u201d<\/p>\n

Praising servicemembers as \u201c1 percent of the population\u201d who are \u201cdefending 99 percent of the rest of us,\u201d the president concluded his remarks by saying: \u201cThank you for your commitment to our country, because \u2026 you are the spine of America \u2026 And I can\u2019t tell you how much it matters. I think you underestimate just the consequence of who you are and what you do. So, thank you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier this week, Biden ordered the intelligence community to begin a 90-day review of evidence to determine whether the coronavirus emerged from the Wuhan Institute of Virology in the central Chinese city.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
