New Fox animated series<\/a> \u201cHouseBroken\u201d is based on co-creator Clea Duvall\u2019s cat, she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201c[It\u2019s] my very complicated cat, Twig. All I want to do is make her happ<\/a>y, and I just don\u2019t know how. I wish we could go to counseling so she could tell me,\u201d DuVall, 43, told The Post.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Premiering Monday, May 31st (9 p.m. on Fox) and co-created by DuVall, Jennifer Crittenden, and Gabrielle Allan,\u201d \u201cHouseBroken\u201d follows the poodle Honey (voiced by Lisa Kudrow), a therapy dog who opens her living room to her fellow neighborhood pets for group sessions, as they work through their issues.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Among others, there\u2019s Honey\u2019s husband Chief (Nat Faxon), a sloppy sock-eating St. Bernard; Shel (Will Forte), a tortoise; Chico (Sam Richardson) the cat; Elsa (DuVall) the corgi, and stray cat who\u2019s known as The Gray One (Jason Mantzoukas).\u00a0<\/p>\n

Kudrow, 57, who also recently appeared on HBO Max\u2019s \u201cFriends\u201d reunion, told the Post that she shares some similarities with Honey.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI know what it is to be that person where you mean well and you care a lot \u2014 but based on everyone\u2019s reactions, you don\u2019t seem to be the most fun person. That makes me laugh about myself,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201c[Therapy] does interest me, I think it interests all of us. Going back to \u2018The Bob Newhart Show\u2019 with that group therapy, because people being vulnerable are trying not to be but they are<\/em>, and that\u2019s when anything with a personality is the most interesting.\u201d<\/p>\n

Even though both Kudrow and DuVall rose to prominence in the 1990s (with \u201cFriends\u201d and DuVall\u2019s movies such as \u201cThe Faculty\u201d and \u201cBut I\u2019m a Cheerleader,\u201d) they hadn\u2019t crossed paths before \u201cHouseBroken,\u201d they said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is one of the reasons why I wanted to do it,\u201d said Kudrow. \u201cI\u2019m a big fan of Clea\u2019s, and I saw who else was doing it and I was like, \u2018I\u2019m in! [The show] felt like I was cheating, like \u2018I should be working right now!\u2019 because I was enjoying myself so much.\u201d<\/p>\n

Over the past few years, DuVall has increasingly moved from acting to writing and directing, most recently writing and directing 2020 Hulu rom com hit \u201cHappiest Season.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe first thing I ever wanted to be was a writer,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd then I started acting and got very lucky very quickly. And I really love acting, but also I just love filmmaking. I love being on sets, I love film crews and working with actors. Having more to do with the process was always something that I was interested in. I made my first movie in 2015 [\u2018The Intervention\u2019] and from then on I was like, \u2018I would rather be doing this\u2019 and writing parts for actors who I love, like Lisa, then looking for parts for myself.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI am definitely more drawn to behind the camera things. I don\u2019t want to say that I don\u2019t want to act anymore, because who knows. If something that I really love comes up, I would definitely do it, but I feel way more drawn to writing and directing. And also it\u2019s so time consuming to do that stuff that all my focus needs to be there.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
