It\u2019s the jab or the job.<\/p>\n

Employers are allowed under federal law to require workers to get a COVID-19 vaccine before they can physically return to the workplace, according to updated guidance<\/a> issued by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Friday.<\/p>\n

But they must provide \u201creasonable accommodations\u201d<\/a> for workers who refuse the shots because of a disability \u2014 including pregnancy \u2014 or for religious reasons, the agency said. The decision may mean unvaccinated employees could be required to wear masks, or to work remotely.<\/p>\n

The EEOC\u2019s rules also gave the green light to companies offering incentives as a means of encouraging staffers to get vaccinated, as long as the perks are \u201cnot so substantial as to be coercive.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cA very large incentive could make employees feel pressured to disclose protected medical information,\u201d the EEOC explained \u2014 without providing specific examples of illegal sweeteners.<\/p>\n

Food manufacturer Bolthouse Farms is giving its vaccinated workers a $500 bonus, the Wall Street Journal reported<\/a>, while retailer Dollar General<\/a> is offering an extra four hours of pay for those who can prove they got a shot.<\/p>\n

In the months since coronavirus vaccines have become widely available, some workers have been blindsided by their bosses\u2019 demands to get inoculated.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was shocking to me,\u201d Bonnie Jacobson told The Post after losing her waitress job in Brooklyn in February. \u201cI went through the stages: I\u2019m hurt, I\u2019m in shock \u2014 then I got mad.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
