{"id":262473,"date":"2021-05-29T21:58:28","date_gmt":"2021-05-29T18:58:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/staten-island-parents-seek-answers-after-sons-navy-suicide\/"},"modified":"2021-05-29T21:58:28","modified_gmt":"2021-05-29T18:58:28","slug":"staten-island-parents-seek-answers-after-sons-navy-suicide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/staten-island-parents-seek-answers-after-sons-navy-suicide\/","title":{"rendered":"#Staten Island parents seek answers after son&#8217;s Navy suicide"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Staten Island parents seek answers after son&#8217;s Navy suicide<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>A grieving Staten Island couple have one Memorial Day wish: to find out how their US Navy son died two years ago. <\/p>\n<p>James Bradley, 22, was found dead inside his locked room at the Port Hueneme Naval Base barracks in Ventura County, Calif., on Oct. 30, 2019 \u2014 leaving his parents and four older sisters in shock. <\/p>\n<p>Navy personnel only mentioned \u201cinformally\u201d that Bradley, who was raised in Brooklyn and was captain of the Xavier High School track team, had taken his own life. <\/p>\n<p>But there never been any hints of suicidal thoughts from their son, Teri and James Bradley say.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis dream was to serve in the Navy,\u201d  said Teri Bradley, 61. \u201cHe was looking to get his first motorcycle. He was coming home for Christmas. The liaison\u2019s only suggestion: file a Freedom of Information Act request, which was later denied.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf it was as cut and dry as they say, what is taking almost two years to give us an outcome?\u201d Teri Bradley added.<\/p>\n<p>The Bradleys had to hire a lawyer, and contacted the Ventura County Medical Examiner themselves to learn their son allegedly hanged himself, according to the parents. Bradley\u2019s body was moved by Navy personnel before medical examiner staffers arrived, M.E. records show.<\/p>\n<p>No autopsy or toxicology was performed \u2014 only an \u201cexternal\u201d inspection of the body.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would have had an autopsy done. I want to know,\u201d said Teri Bradley. \u201cA visual [inspection] of a body is not an autopsy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>An autopsy isn\u2019t conducted for every death, the medical examiners office said, adding, \u201cNot every case calls for toxicology or a full autopsy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The couple claim they never had a chance to speak privately with their son\u2019s Navy pals at his Brooklyn funeral or a California memorial, because commanding officers were always present. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fact that you don\u2019t come forward and present the facts, the delays in this process \u2014 is that really what happened or are they just trying to clean up the mess?\u201d said Jim Bradley, adding, \u201cI\u2019m a retired cop, this is not how you treat the family of a person who died, under any circumstance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Navy\u2019s \u201ccloak-and-dagger\u201d approach to communication has left the Bradleys with questions, said their attorney Maryam Hadden.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-nypost-medium-post\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"322\" height=\"435\" alt=\"Hand out photo of James Michael Bradley, center, and his parents, Teresa and James Bradley, residents of Staten Island. They only thing they do know is that the Navy hasn\u2019t handled it in a professional manner,\u201d Hadden said. <\/p>\n<p>The Bradley\u2019s appealed the denial of their FOIA request. In an April rejection letter, Navy officials insisted a Naval Criminal Investigative Service probe of James Bradley\u2019s death \u2014 which is conducted for all non-combat deaths \u2014 was still active.<\/p>\n<p>Another probe, called a Line of Duty Death investigation, was completed by November 2019 and was available to the family upon request, said a spokeswoman, who declined to comment on the litigation.<\/p>\n<p>The Bradleys say they were never told of the Line of Duty Death investigation, or its completion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve never heard that term before,\u201d Jim Bradley said.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cNo one ever said that,\u201d added his wife. \u201cWe know nothing of what we should have had, what we don\u2019t have \u2014 all we know is we lost a son.\u201d\n            <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
