A woman led authorities on a high-speed chase in Oregon \u2014 only for police to discover invasive snails inside the car when they finally caught up with her, police said.<\/p>\n

Anastasia Dickey, 33, of Utah, was pulled over Wednesday in Fruitland, Ore., on suspicion of driving under the influence of intoxicants, but allegedly sped off from the scene, the Argus Observer reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n

She led authorities west on Interstate 84 to Ontario, reaching speeds of 92 miles per hour, police said.<\/p>\n

The cops attempted to deploy spikes to deflate her tires, but she continued until the vehicle became stranded on Union Pacific railroad tracks, the news<\/a>paper reported.<\/p>\n

A search of the car turned up \u201ca small amount of meth and in plain view, several snails,\u201d police said.<\/p>\n

Dickey was arrested on charges that include reckless driving, attempting to elude a police officer, and driving under the influence, the newspaper reported.<\/p>\n

No charges have been filed related to the mollusks though, it\u2019s illegal to bring them from Utah into Oregon under the state\u2019s administrative rules, the newspaper reported.<\/p>\n

Josh Vlach, an entomologist with the Department of Agriculture, later confirmed that the confiscated creatures were European brown garden snails and not native to Oregon.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are lots of snails we don\u2019t want to come to Oregon,\u201d Vlach told the newspaper.<\/p>\n

He said that the snail can be used for escargot dishes or as a garden and crop pest.<\/p>\n

The snails are \u201cbig and voracious eaters of plants and kind of just about anything,\u201d Vlach said.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
