Matthew McConaughey thinks anti-maskers are not alright, not alright, not alright.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m like going come on, man \u2013 I\u2019m not believing that you\u2019re really scared of this little cotton thing,\u201d the Oscar-winning actor and potential Texas gubernatorial candidate<\/a> said in a recent app<\/a>earance on \u201cThe Carlos Watson Show.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I\u2019m not believing that you really feel that takes away your identity and your freedom. This is a short-term inconvenience for long-term freedom.\u201d<\/p>\n

McConaughey\u2019s thoughts on what he called \u201cthe damn dispute\u201d over mask-wearing comes as he continues to flirt with the possibility of running in the Lone Star State in 2022. He told host Watson the debate over masks had been politicized.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s no data that says it\u2019s not a good thing, no data that says it\u2019s harmful,\u201d McConaughey said in a clip from the interview posted on YouTube<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s all take one for the team here. And we all like to say we want to take one for the team, we like to say oh, the value of a human life is the epitome \u2026 no it\u2019s not. We won\u2019t admit it.\u201d<\/p>\n

If he were to run for governor, the 51-year-old star of \u201cDallas Buyers Club\u201d would likely face incumbent Republican Greg Abbott, who is planning to seek re-election. It\u2019s not clear if McConaughey would run as a Republican, Democrat or independent.<\/p>\n

McConaughey outlined a philosophy that he wouldn\u2019t use \u201cBand-Aids\u201d to solve problems.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m interested in building something that can last and I\u2019m measuring what category that is, and I don\u2019t know if that\u2019s politics,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Watson asked the actor if he had the constitution for political fights that might be \u201cuncomfortable\u201d or \u201cahead of the curve.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI trust my core beliefs enough and my values enough to know, to feel comfortable to listen to an opposing one,\u201d McConaughey said.<\/p>\n

The actor, who lives in Austin, has said for months that he\u2019s considering and he has been gauging support among moderate Republicans and business leaders in Texas, Politico recently reported.<\/p>\n

McConaughey hasn\u2019t said much about what his political platform would be, but a recent poll of registered voters showed him ahead of Abbott.<\/p>\n

The Dallas Morning News<\/a> and University of Texas at Tyler found 45 percent of Texans\u00a0would pick the actor<\/a>, while 33 percent would vote for Abbott. But 56 percent of Republicans would vote for Abbott, while 30 percent would vote for McConaughey, the poll found.\n <\/div>\n
