When the highly anticipated \u201cFriends\u201d reunion finally premiered Thursday on HBO Max<\/a>, fans across the pond were thinking the same thing: Matt LeBlanc is a dead ringer for a beloved Irish uncle. <\/p>\n

Irish Twitter<\/a> was quick to observe that LeBlanc, who played Italian ladies\u2019 man Joey Tribbiani on the sitcom, possessed certain Gaelic grandad, or \u201cDa,\u201d characteristics, including his biting wisecracks, Sunday roasts and frequent pints at the local pub.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, a very \u201cIrish uncle-esque\u201d pic of the 53-year-old \u201cJoey\u201d star sitting with his arms folded on a couch, wearing a strip<\/a>ed short-sleeved shirt has taken social media by storm. <\/p>\n

\u201cI enjoyed Matt Le Blanc\u2019s \u2018Da sitting on the couch during a quick stop at your grans\u2019 performance,’\u201d tweeted one Irish \u201cFriends\u201d fan<\/a> alongside the now meme-fied photo of the Emmy nominee.<\/p>\n

The affectionate comparisons are perhaps even funnier given that the comedian isn\u2019t even Irish, but rather boasts mixed French and Italian ancestry.<\/a><\/p>\n

Nonetheless, the quips came fast and hard, with Irish comedian Dara \u00d3 Briain retweeting a thread<\/a> featuring the best memes of LeBlanc as the quintessential relative from the Emerald Isle.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, journalist Philip O\u2019Connor<\/a> tweeted that he hoped that Matt LeBlanc \u201csees the love on Irish Twitter for him these last 24 hours.\u201d<\/p>\n

Not everyone thought the adoring tweetstorm was so sidesplitting. Many outsiders criticized Irish fans for \u201cfat shaming\u201d LeBlanc as the photo depicts him looking quite rotund. <\/p>\n

However, Irish \u201cFriends\u201d die-hards insisted that the comparisons came from a place of love.<\/p>\n
