Google Chrome shows media controls when something is being cast on your Wi-Fi network. If you\u2019re not the one doing the casting, this can be a little annoying, especially since you\u2019re able to control someone else\u2019s music or video playback without their permission. Thankfully, you can turn it off.<\/p>\n

The Chromecast media controls app<\/a>ear next to the extensions in the top right of the Chrome desktop browser on Windows 10<\/a>, Mac<\/a>, and Linux<\/a>. You\u2019ll see an icon with a music note and three lines, and clicking it reveals some basic controls for the video or music being cast.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, the only way to prevent the media controls from showing up is to turn off a Chrome \u201cflag.\u201d It\u2019s sort of an \u201cunofficial\u201d way to do things, but it can achieve the desired outcome.<\/p>\n

Warning:<\/strong> Features put behind Chrome flags are there for a reason. They might be unstable, could negatively impact your browser\u2019s performance, and can vanish without notice. Enable flags at your own risk.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

First, open\u00a0Google Chrome<\/a>\u00a0on your Windows, Mac, or Linux PC. Then, type\u00a0chrome:\/\/flags<\/code>\u00a0in the address bar and hit Enter.<\/p>\n

Next, use the search box to find a flag titled \u201cGlobal Media Controls for Cast.\u201d<\/p>\n

Select the corresponding drop-down menu for the flag and change it to \u201cDisabled.\u201d<\/p>\n

After you change the flag status, Chrome will ask you to restart the browser to apply the changes. Click the blue \u201cRelaunch\u201d button at the bottom of the screen.<\/p>\n
