\n Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday promised to help Atlanta conduct testing and contact tracing of people exposed to the deadly coronavirus amid a record surge in cases there.<\/p>\n

During a coronavirus briefing with Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, Cuomo, speaking from Manhattan, said he would send a team of experts who were trained with the help of former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Johns Hopkins University, where Bloomberg is a major donor.<\/p>\n

Cuomo also wished Bottoms \u201c100 percent Godspeed\u201d in recovering from her own infection.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have an open offer: whatever you need,\u201d Cuomo said. \u201cBut we are also 100% behind you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bottoms said that Atlanta was \u201cheaded in the wrong direction\u201d with \u201cnumbers that I haven\u2019t seen since April.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAs of yesterday afternoon, we were up over 23 percent,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Bottoms \u2014 who last week mandated masks in her city \u2014 blamed the surge in the disease there on Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp and also called for federal intervention.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnless we have a coordinated app<\/a>roach across this country, we are going to watch people unnecessarily die,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Cuomo noted a cluster of coronavirus cases in upstate Rensselaer County that officials have tied to a trio of residents who recently returned from Georgia.<\/p>\n

Bottoms said she and her husband tested positive for the coronavirus because \u201cwe had an asymptomatic child in our home for eight days before we knew that that child was asymptomatic.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThankfully, by the grace of God, we have no underlying conditions,\u201d she added.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
