“#Summer VS Marissa? Rachel Bilson Reacts To Mischa Barton’s ‘Misinformation’ & Bullying Comments

\nMischa Barton<\/strong>\u2019s former The O.C.<\/em> co-stars don\u2019t exactly see eye-to-eye with her when it comes to their time on the hit show!<\/p>\n

As we reported, Barton recently spilled some major tea about \u201cwhat was really going on behind the scenes\u201d of the teen soap on the 15th anniversary of her getting killed off the show, revealing that on-set \u201cbullying\u201d was one of the reasons she decided to exit the series<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Well, Mischa\u2019s former castmates Rachel Bilson<\/strong> and Melinda Clarke<\/strong> were asked to weigh in on those claims on the latest episode of their Welcome to The O.C., Bitches<\/em> podcast \u2014 and they app<\/a>arently have no idea what The Hills: New Beginning<\/em> star is talking about!<\/p>\n

The claims were brought up by podcaster Danny Pellegrino<\/strong> during his appearance on Bilson and Clarke\u2019s hit new show, in which they rewatch the entire series with guests. Although the full episode won\u2019t drop until later in the season, the Hart of Dixie<\/em> star said they released this segment early \u201cin hopes Mischa would hear us talk about it and would be willing to come join us on the show so we could hear her entire perspective and what she is saying that she experienced.\u201d<\/p>\n

Man, they really want to get this settled!<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s what we know about Mischa\u2019s perspective so far: she told E!<\/em> last month that while she looked back at her time on the show \u201cpretty fondly,\u201d she noted \u201cthere\u2019s stuff I think people did wrong\u201d and claimed some people on set were \u201cvery mean\u201d to her.<\/p>\n

Mischa also specifically name dropped Rachel when asked when conversations about Marissa Cooper getting written off started, sharing:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt had a lot to do with them adding Rachel [Bilson] in last minute as, after the first season, a series regular and evening out everybody\u2019s pay \u2014 and sort of general<\/a> bullying from some of the men on set that kind of felt really s***ty.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

On the podcast episode, Pellegrino asked whether Bilson and Clarke \u201cunderstood what she was trying to say in terms of why she left the show\u201d \u2014 to which Rachel replied:<\/p>\n

\u201cMelinda and I were talking immedia<\/a>tely after it came out, like, \u2018What?’\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Clarke took a minute to consider what Barton might have been going through at the time, noting:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe one thing going into this podcast \u2014 and Rachel and I discussed this \u2014 I can tell you about my experience with total honesty and transparency, I cannot speak for somebody else\u2019s experience. We have touched on this, that someone who\u2019s 16, 17, 18, that amount of hours of work, pressure, at such a young age, at best you\u2019re exhausted and at worst, it\u2019s overwhelming and chaotic.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

However, she went on to reveal that she found some of Mischa\u2019s comments \u201cperplexing,\u201d adding:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt kind of breaks my heart a little to know \u2014 we knew there was a lot of pressure on her \u2014 but if it was really that bad of an experience, that\u2019s not right for any young person. But some of the comments were very perplexing to me, so I don\u2019t know what the truth is about that. I do know that, yes, this was an enormous amount of pressure.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Rachel was also baffled by her former onscreen bestie\u2019s comments \u2014 particularly that one involving her. She clarified:<\/p>\n

\u201cIn one of her first comments she said that I was added last minute after the first season, which is actually completely false and not what happened. So it\u2019s starting out that way, I was like, \u2018Well, that\u2019s misinformation. Where is she going with this and what is she trying to say?\u2019 I would actually like to talk to her and find out what her experience was from her perspective. I saw things a little differently, I guess.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

As Clarke explained, both her and Rachel\u2019s characters (Julie Cooper and Summer Roberts, respectively) were originally intended to be series regulars, \u201cbut the powers that be\u201d changed their minds and had them as guest stars for the first 11 episodes of the first season. After that, they became series regulars \u2014 which is notably not the same as Mischa\u2019s \u201clast minute\u201d casting change claims.<\/p>\n

The 52-year-old went on to muse:<\/p>\n

\u201cSo that was a little perplexing. We all do know that now, in the early 2000s, the scrutiny of the young ladies going out and the Nicole Richies and the Parises and Lindsays and Mischas, there was a lot of attention and just by being out there somehow it got turned against them and we\u2019re finding out it may have been quite a toxic environment. Rachel and I both think it\u2019s important, if she wants to come and talk to us and share her story, we would love to explore that. I think it\u2019s something we\u2019re all becoming aware of and it\u2019s important for us to learn in our culture what can be very damaging to young people\u2026 Hollywood is notorious for doing 18-20 hour days, and it\u2019s not for the faint of heart. But being that young, I do think it can be an additional stress.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Pellegrino then brought up Mischa\u2019s claims about being bullied by some of the men on set, saying it felt like she was \u201calluding to cast members.\u201d Bilson replied:<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m definitely pretty confused by most of it and I don\u2019t know who she\u2019s referring to. I didn\u2019t personally witness any of that, so I don\u2019t know who she\u2019s referring to or what, because I didn\u2019t see it myself.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Clarke agreed, adding:<\/p>\n

\u201cI did not either. Like I said, everyone has their own experience and it, to me, I couldn\u2019t wait to get to work. It was like going to musical theater camp, I just loved being there.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Bilson pointed out the interview sent \u201ckind of mixed messages\u201d about Barton\u2019s time on set, but Clarke made sure to sympathize with her former onscreen daughter, adding:<\/p>\n

\u201cBut when you literally, a human being, is the star of a show and you are working incredibly long hours and you\u2019re the \u2018It Girl\u2019 and everybody wants a piece of you and the paparazzi wants you and you have agents and managers telling you, \u2018You\u2019re getting offered all of these movies and because you\u2019re on this show you can\u2019t take these offers,\u2019 what do you do with all of that? How do you process all of that without feeling like you don\u2019t have freedom to do what you want and maybe this show is a grind\u2026 We can only imagine that it was pretty overwhelming and how to navigate these waters at that age.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Yikes. It almost sounds like they were on a completely different show altogether!<\/p>\n

Mischa did tease that she would be doing projects which would allow her to go more in detail about her time on the series, so we don\u2019t expect her to take Bilson\u2019s invitation to air out her grievances. But hopefully we \u2014 and Mischa\u2019s \u201cperplexed\u201d former co-stars \u2014 will get answers soon!<\/p>\n
