From pitch number one to the last pitch of the game and you feel it. You know how hard they\u2019re working and how much preparation they\u2019re doing. Of course, it wears on you a little bit. But that\u2019s what we signed up for.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt comes with the territory of when guys are struggling, you hear a lot of heat or whatever. Post: Charles Wenzelberg<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A lineup that entered the season expecting to put fear into opposing pitchers \u2014 as it did in Thames\u2019 first three seasons, when it ranked among the top four in scoring each year \u2014 has so far failed to live up to its expectations. Entering Tuesday, the Yankees had scored two or fewer runs in nine of their past 12 games, which the franchise hadn\u2019t done since 1971.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt hasn\u2019t been pretty at all,\u201d Thames said. \u201cThat\u2019s the big elephant in the room everywhere: the offense, the offense, the offense.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There was blame to go around up and down the lineup, but among the culprits:<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"DJ_LeMahieu\"><\/span>DJ LeMahieu<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The infielder was hitting .262 through Monday but had an OPS of just .684. Those numbers pale in comparison to the spark plug LeMahieu had been for the Yankees in his first two years with the team, when he combined to hit .336 with an OPS of .922 across 195 games. Last year alone, he led the league hitting .364 with an OPS of 1.011.<\/p>\n<p>        <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Podcast\" width=\"100%\" height=\"188px\" src=\"https:\/\/embed.acast.com\/pinstripe-pod\/embarrassingweekendforyankeesfeat.mikestanton?accentColor=2a2a2a&amp;bgColor=f6f6f6&amp;font-family=proxima%20nova&amp;logo=false&amp;secondaryColor=cc3333\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"border:none;overflow:hidden;\"><br \/>\n        <\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen he goes, we go,\u201d Thames said. \u201cHis numbers are decent, but they\u2019re not DJ LeMahieu\u2019s numbers right now. He\u2019s just gotta continue to get pitches. He\u2019s starting to expand [the zone] a little bit. I think that comes with the overall offense struggling, he\u2019s just trying to put the team on his back instead of just being himself. We talked about it earlier, just get your pitch and don\u2019t miss it and do what DJ does. When he does that, he\u2019s gonna get back to normal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thames said at times, LeMahieu is getting started late at the plate, leading to a lack of solid contact.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Gleyber_Torres_power_outage\"><\/span>Gleyber Torres\u2019 power outage<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The shortstop arrived in the big leagues in 2018 and crushed 62 home runs over his first two seasons. In 87 games since, he has hit just five home runs, including two in 45 games this season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re just trying to keep him behind the baseball a little bit longer,\u201d Thames said. \u201cHis lower half is his key when he\u2019s hitting. He\u2019s just rushing out there, trying to go get the ball. He needs to let the ball <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a> a little bit more.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Mental_approach\"><\/span>Mental approach<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>As much as Thames is working with hitters on mechanical tweaks, he admitted that the mental aspect of the game is also part of the battle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI told the guys the other day, some days it looks like they\u2019re not having fun,\u201d Thames said. \u201cBut they gotta go have fun and let this game slow down a little bit and get back to where we need to be.\u201d\n            <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
