Letting the dangerously mentally ill wander New York\u2019s streets even after they\u2019ve attacked multiple innocents may be Mayor Bill de Blasio\u2019s most egregious failing, but it\u2019s far from the only way disorder is exploding on his watch. <\/p>\n

Two obvious bits of chaos are the return of the squeegee men and the cesspool-ization of Washington Square Park.<\/p>\n

As Sunday\u2019s Post reported, the park\u2019s northwest corner has become a crack- and heroin-filled drug den, while the central fountain now hosts raucous, booze-fueled raves, keeping area residents up \u2019til the wee hours of the morning. <\/p>\n

Not to mention the prostitution.<\/p>\n

A Post tour of the park last week found the flowerbeds littered with syringes and empty drug capsules. Another resident reported\u00a0seeing a female giving oral sex to a drug dealer, with other men \u201clined up for their turn\u201d with their pants open \u2014 on an 8 a.m. stroll to the park\u2019s dog run.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe may be liberal but this has gone too far,\u201d lamented Steven Hill, a Village resident since 1980. \u201cThere have always been drugs in the park, mostly pot, but what\u2019s emerged this spring is like nothing we\u2019ve ever seen before.\u201d<\/p>\n

In response to more than a month of complaints, the city on Tuesday erected barriers to illegal and<\/em> legal uses: A new curfew closes it down at 10 p.m. instead of its usual midnight on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. That\u2019s penalizing everyone because you won\u2019t face down the sources of blight.<\/p>\n

Then there\u2019s the return of the squeegee men \u2014 a blatant sign the city\u2019s reverting to the \u201cbad old days.\u201d<\/p>\n

As we\u2019ve written before, nothing better symbolizes \u201cthe loss of civility and law and order than guys with dirty rags swabbing windshields without permission \u2014 and demanding money for it.\u201d We\u2019ve been seeing them for some time now, and our reporters found them out in force on Monday, a highly organized crew aggressively wiping down windows near Times Square.<\/p>\n

The Post\u2019s coverage led to cops cracking down Tuesday \u2014 briefly. Five squeegee men worked Ninth Avenue between 39th and 40th streets starting at 8:30 a.m. After two hours, officers from the NYPD Business District Recovery Initiative showed to issue a warning and confiscate their bucket, but the crew was back to harassing motorists.<\/p>\n

\u201cMind your own f\u2014ing business,\u201d the commander of the squeegee squad snapp<\/a>ed at a Post reporter.<\/p>\n
