Jonathan Majors<\/strong>, who was recently in\u00a0Lovecraft Country<\/em> and Spike Lee\u2019s\u00a0Da 5 Bloods<\/em>, is in talks to be Michael B. Jordan<\/strong>\u2018s new opponent in\u00a0Creed III<\/em><\/strong>. The third entry in the\u00a0Rocky<\/em> spin-off franchise will have Jordan both behind and in front of the camera as he\u2019s set to make his directorial debut on the project. While specific details about Majors\u2019 role aren\u2019t available just yet, it\u2019s being reported that he\u2019ll be Adonis Creed\u2019s latest nemesis.<\/p>\n

Deadline broke the news<\/a> that Jonathan Majors will be squaring off against Michael B. Jordan in\u00a0Creed III<\/em>. The deal isn\u2019t completely done yet, as Majors is becoming increasingly busy \u2013 he\u2019s playing Kang the Conquerer in\u00a0Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania<\/em>, and he\u2019s app<\/a>arently in talks to return for the second season of\u00a0Lovecraft Country<\/em>, although that news is going to be surprising to anyone who actually watched the show. In any case, Majors is a strong actor with a great screen presence, so he\u2019ll no doubt make a great opponent for Adonis Creed. Majors is also\u00a0ripped<\/em>, so he\u2019ll look formidable against extremely buff Jordan in the ring.
\nThe third entry in the\u00a0Creed<\/em> series<\/a> is going to change things up a bit. For one thing, star Michael B. Jordan will be making his directorial debut on the film. For another, Adonis Creed\u2019s mentor Rocky Balboa, played by Sylvester Stallone<\/strong>, won\u2019t be back. Stallone first mentioned this was a possibility back when\u00a0Creed II<\/em> hit theaters, saying:<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is probably my last rodeo because what I thought happened, it has happened, I never expected. I thought Rocky was over in 2006, and I was very happy with that. Then all of a sudden this young man presented himself, and the whole story changed. It went on to a new generation, new problems, new adventures. And I couldn\u2019t be happier because as I step back, as my story has been told, there\u2019s a whole new world that\u2019s gonna be opening up for the audience, for this generation. Thank you very much, Stephen. And definitely you, Michael, for making that possible. Now you have to carry the mantle.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Stallone again confirmed he wasn\u2019t returning for the sequel earlier this year. Jordan also added: \u201cI think that Sly let it be known that he wasn\u2019t coming back for this one but I think, you know, his essence and his spirit\u2026 there\u2019s always going to be a little bit of Rocky within Adonis. But this is a \u2018Creed\u2019 franchise, and we really want to build this story and this world around him moving forward. So, it\u2019s always respect and always a shit-ton of love for what he\u2019s built, but we really want to push and navigate Adonis forward and the family that he created.\u201d<\/p>\n

The first\u00a0Creed<\/em>, directed by Ryan Coogler, was fantastic. And while I thought the sequel, helmed by\u00a0Steven Caple Jr., was a bit of a step-down, I\u2019m excited to see where the story goes from here. We\u2019ll hopefully learn even more about the sequel soon.<\/p>\n
