Libertarian: TSA Mask Mandate All for Show<\/strong><\/p>\n

In a display of \u201c\u200a\u2018hygiene theater,\u2019 gratuitously incommoding passengers to create the illusion of added safety,\u201d the Transportation Security Administration has extended mask requirements for all passengers, vaccinated or not, until Sept. 13, gripes Reason\u2019s Jacob Sullum<\/a>. The TSA is trying to \u201cpass the buck\u201d by blaming Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, but the CDC actually OK\u2019d the vaccinated going mask-less. Given the few COVID-19 cases linked to air travel<\/a> and \u201cthe remarkable effectiveness of vaccines, forcing passengers to continue wearing masks even after they have been vaccinated cannot reasonably be expected to provide any significant additional safety.\u201d Airlines might still have opted to \u201cplacate irrationally fearful employees and passengers by imposing a gratuitous burden on vaccinated customers,\u201d but the TSA \u201cis not giving them any choice in the matter.\u201d<\/p>\n

From the right: Asian Hate Lurks in Elite Schools<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cToday\u2019s anti-Asian racism is usually expressed .\u2009.\u2009. in the progressive patois of a \u2018culture\u2019 of \u2018diversity\u2019\u200a\u201d in elite high schools across the country, thunders George Will at The Washington Post<\/a>. At Thomas Jefferson HS, \u201ca selective STEM magnet school with a national reputation for excellence\u201d and a majority-Asian-American student body in Fairfax, Va., the school board is revamping the admissions process to \u201cengineer a student body in which racial and ethnic groups are \u2018proportional\u2019 to their shares of the county\u2019s population.\u201d It\u2019s doing this by axing the admissions test, on which Asian-American students excel, and limiting \u201cthe number of \u00adadmissions from particular middle schools.\u201d Yet \u201cmost beneficiaries will be white.\u201d Beware \u201ctoday\u2019s saturation of national life with government-endorsed and government-enforced racial discrimination.\u201d<\/p>\n

Conservative: Biden\u2019s \u2018Ghoulish\u2019 Abortion Move<\/strong><\/p>\n

President Biden wants to strike the Hyde Amendment, which bars direct federal funding of most abortions \u2014 \u201cgoing full-ghoul while trying to jettison what for 45 years has been both his own position and US policy,\u201d fumes Quin Hillyer at the Washington Examiner<\/a>. This \u201cwould end decades of bipartisan agreement that, no matter what one\u2019s position on the legality of abortion, at least it is enough of a morally fraught issue that the money of anti-abortion taxpayers should not be confiscated to pay for the taking of [babies\u2019] lives. The consensus . . . was both moral and commonsensical. When a third of the population thinks that a procedure is murder, and another third finds it morally problematic enough to favor considerable restrictions on it, it is unethical to use the plenary force of government to make those two-thirds materially support it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Law prof: The Supremes\u2019 9-0 Message<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Supreme Court\u2019s recent \u201cdisplay of unanimity is notable given the calls by Democratic leaders to pack the court,\u201d observes Jonathan Turley at his site<\/a>. In four cases the last fortnight, on topics from immigration to tribal authority to funding \u00adenvironmental restoration on Guam, the nine \u00adSupremes ruled unanimously. This \u201cextraordinary\u201d string of decisions could be the justices\u2019 \u201cimplied message\u201d that the court \u201cis not nearly as rigid and divided as suggested\u201d by Democrats. After Justice Stephen Breyer recently \u201cwarned against any move to expand the Supreme Court\u201d (as did Ruth Bader Ginsburg before her death), liberals \u201cswiftly denounced\u201d him and \u201ccalled for his retirement.\u201d Perhaps the \u201cscheduling of these unanimous opinions\u201d is the high court \u201cclearing its throat on these campaigns and threats.\u201d<\/p>\n

Supply-sider: Biden\u2019s Given Up on Growth<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThere is virtually no growth in\u201d President Biden\u2019s $6 billion spending plan, warns Larry Kudlow at The New York Sun<\/a>. After all the \u201chullabaloo of radical transformation\u201d in Biden\u2019s many proposals, he still projects \u201cthe same sub-2 percent growth of the Obama-Biden stagnation years.\u201d Huh? \u201cIf you\u2019re going to transform the economy and the culture, at least show that you believe it will create more jobs, higher wages, bigger family incomes and a rejuvenated economy.\u201d This shows that \u201cthe Democrats don\u2019t care about growth and prosperity. They just say they do. What they want is redistribution.\u201d<\/p>\n
