Andor<\/em><\/strong> has added another cast member to its rogueish ensemble. Chernobyl<\/em> and\u00a0His Dark Materials<\/em> actor\u00a0Robert Emms<\/strong> has joined the\u00a0Andor<\/em> cast, boarding the Disney+ spin-off series<\/a> of\u00a0Rogue One<\/em> that is currently in production in the U.K.<\/p>\n

Deadline reports that Emms has been cast in a supporting role in\u00a0Andor<\/em>, though there were no further details available about his character. Emms is best known for his app<\/a>earances in TV shows like\u00a0Atlantis<\/em>,\u00a0Happy Valley,<\/em>\u00a0Chernobyl<\/em>,\u00a0His Dark<\/em> Materials<\/em>,\u00a0and\u00a0Cleaning Up<\/em>, though he\u2019s also popped up in feature films like\u00a0War Horse<\/em>,\u00a0Apostasy,\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.<\/em>
\nEmms will be joining a cast that includes\u00a0Diego Luna<\/strong>, who is reprising his role as Rebel Cassian Andor from\u00a0Rogue One: A Star Wars Story<\/em>, as well as\u00a0Adria Arjona<\/strong>, Denise Gough<\/strong>, Genevieve O\u2019Reilly<\/strong>, Stellan Skarsgard<\/strong>, Fiona Shaw<\/strong>, and Kyle Soller<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Set to be a 12-episode series,\u00a0Andor<\/em>\u00a0takes place in 5 BBY (Before the Battle of Yavin), which refers to the battle that destroys the Death Star in\u00a0Star Wars: A New Hope<\/em>, and follows the origins of Luna\u2019s swaggering Rebel Cassian Andor.\u00a0When the project was first announced, it was described as a \u201crousing spy thriller\u201d that \u201cwill explore tales filled with espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s hard to tell how Emms will fit into the cast, as he\u2019s mostly played supporting or bit parts in the titles in which he\u2019s appeared. He\u2019s got a face for genre shows, at the very least, and can easily play techie guys, shady characters, or timid sidekicks. So he will likely help fill out the ranks of the Rebellion as they continue their fight against the Empire.<\/p>\n

The series is currently shooting in the U.K., with Toby Haynes<\/strong> acting as lead director. Deadline refers to the 12 episodes as the \u201cfirst season,\u201d which is another thing that\u2019s hard to imagine, as there\u2019s only so many things that Cassian Andor can get up to before he ultimately faces his doom during the events of\u00a0Rogue One<\/em>. But I guess four or five years gives a lot of leeway for Lucasfilm and Disney+ to play around with the world and the characters \u2014 perhaps expanding the focus of the show away from just Cassian Andor and toward a greater ensemble. They would definitely have to rename the show moving forward, though.<\/p>\n

Ben Caron<\/strong> and Susanna White<\/strong> will also direct episodes of\u00a0Andor<\/em>, and writers include Stephen Schiff<\/strong> and Tony Gilroy<\/strong>. Filming is due to wrap this summer.
\nAndor<\/em> is set to debut on Disney+ sometime in 2022<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
