From the original 2013 installment following two demonologists on a treacherous spirit-based mission to beloved spin-offs such as <\/span><strong><i>Annabelle <\/i><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(2014) and <\/span><strong><i>The Curse of La Llorona<\/i><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2019), the franchise is one of the most prolific of its kind \u2014 and for a good reason.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The latest entry <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to grace the silver screen, <strong><em>T<\/em><em>he\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/span><strong><i>Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It<\/i><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, features a comeback from our favorite paranormal investigators, Lorraine and Ed Warren (Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson). The sequel follows the real-life murder <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Trial_of_Arne_Cheyenne_Johnson\">trial of Arne Cheyenne Johnson<\/a>, which took place in Connecticut in 1981. This was the first recorded instance of someone claiming innocence based on the fact that <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the devil made them do it<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The creators of <\/span><strong><i>The Conjuring<\/i><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> know its viewers are suckers for that paranormal aesthetic, jump-scares galore, and supernatural gore. So, while <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has a fresh new story, it also sticks to things we know and love about our favorite genre. And if you watch the movie <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and are still itching for more <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Conjuring<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-style horror, we don\u2019t blame you. In fact, we\u2019re right there with you. Featuring a chilling story conceived by Steven Spielberg, the film follows a five-year-old girl who gains the ability to communicate with the dead through her family\u2019s TV set. What could possibly go wrong?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Like <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Conjuring<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, it <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">considers the grim possibilities of what lies <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">beyond<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Haunted cemeteries, gooey ectoplasms, invisible forces wreaking havoc on an idyllic suburban home. If it\u2019s supernatural and spooky, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Poltergeist <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is sure to have it. And that\u2019s putting it nicely. The new Regan swears like a sailor, pees on her mom\u2019s rug in front of a bunch of strangers, and is able to lift ten times her body weight. It doesn\u2019t take long for her mom (Ellen Burstyn) to discover that Regan is possessed by a demon. So, she decides to buy a Ouija board (if we\u2019ve learned <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">anything<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as horror veterans, it is that this is <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">always<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a bad idea<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From there, things spin out into a fresh, supernatural hellscape. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Paranormal Activity<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is also one of the movies that really championed the found-footage horror genre, so fans of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Conjuring<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> who are looking to step a little out of their comfort zone, this one\u2019s for you. Fans of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Conjuring<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">love<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the film\u2019s perfect storm of high-stakes mystery, hair-raising jump scares, and, of course, its striking window into the realm of the dead. And if for some reason those things aren\u2019t enough for you, there is a creepy kid who wears a sack over his head throughout the entire film. Her kids are allergic to light, so the three are forced to spend every waking moment in the dark. Needless to say, not everything lurking in that darkness is exactly friendly.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Others<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has jump scares, a gothic aesthetic that <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Conjuring<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> definitely drew some inspiration from, ghosts that come straight out of your nightmares, and Kidman rocking some pretty darn great outfits. The film kick-started a massive horror franchise, not dissimilar to the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Conjuring <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Universe, and is centered around a curse called the Grudge, which comes about when someone dies holding, well, a serious grudge.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Care worker Karen (<strong>Sarah Michelle Gellar<\/strong>) becomes a victim of the curse when she is hired to take care of Emma, an old woman plagued with Alzheimer\u2019s. Quickly, Karen realizes there is a not-so-nice force lurking around Emma\u2019s house. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Grudge <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">might just be the mother of all evil curse movies, so it\u2019s imperative that fans of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Conjuring<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> give it a watch.
