{"id":267222,"date":"2021-06-05T06:41:13","date_gmt":"2021-06-05T03:41:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/nigeria-announces-twitter-ban-in-statement-on-twitter\/"},"modified":"2021-06-05T06:41:13","modified_gmt":"2021-06-05T03:41:13","slug":"nigeria-announces-twitter-ban-in-statement-on-twitter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/nigeria-announces-twitter-ban-in-statement-on-twitter\/","title":{"rendered":"#Nigeria announces Twitter ban \u2014 in statement on Twitter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Nigeria announces <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a> ban \u2014 in statement on Twitter<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The Nigerian government announced Friday it had indefinitely suspended Twitter\u2019s operations in the West African country \u2014 but drew mockery for posting its statement about the ban on Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>Minister for Information and Culture Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said that the country had \u201csuspended, indefinitely, the operations of the microblogging and social networking service, Twitter, in Nigeria.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The statement, posted <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FMICNigeria\/status\/1400843062641717249\">on the ministry\u2019s official Twitter account<\/a>, cited \u201cthe persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria\u2019s corporate existence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The suspension came two days after the social media giant deleted a post from President Muhammadu Buhari that threatened to punish regional secessionists. <\/p>\n<p>Despite Friday\u2019s announcement, the Associated Press reported users could still access Twitter late Friday, and many said they would simply use VPNs to maintain access to the platform. <\/p>\n<p>Reuters reported that a ministerial aide said, \u201cwait and see how things will turn out\u201d when asked how the suspension would be enforced. Are you not mad?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, Twitter deleted a post from Buhari that warned separatist militants in the southeast of the country that they could expect a \u201crude shock.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany of those misbehaving today are too young to be aware of the destruction and loss of lives that occurred during the Nigerian Civil War,\u201d he tweeted, referring to the Biafra Conflict, which killed 1 million people between 1967 and 1970. \u201cThose of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition to deleting the post for violating its \u201cabusive behavior\u201d policy, Buhari\u2019s account was suspended for 12 hours. <\/p>\n<p>In recent months, pro-Biafra separatists have been accused of attacking police and government buildings.
