Urban Meyer wouldn\u2019t put a percentage on Tim Tebow\u2019s chances of making the Jacksonville Jaguars as a tight end, but the team\u2019s new coach said this week that the former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback \u2013 and Mets minor-league outfielder \u2013 is doing well in organized team activities.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat\u2019s the percentage of making the team? We don\u2019t know. This is uncharted waters,\u201d Meyer said Thursday about Tebow during an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show<\/a>. \u201cThis is going to be very difficult, but he\u2019s been doing great. He\u2019s been doing great in practice. He\u2019s learning the offense.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs you can imagine, he\u2019s working as hard as anybody. I see a good camaraderie amongst the team with him, and it\u2019s been good so far.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meyer, Tebow\u2019s college coach at Florida before spending seven seasons at Ohio State through 2018, was hired as Doug Marrone\u2019s replacement in January.<\/p>\n

The 33-year-old Tebow played three years of baseball as an outfielder in the Mets\u2019 minor-league system from 2017-2019 before last season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The former quarterback hasn\u2019t played in the NFL since he lasted just three years in the league from 2010-2012 \u2014 two for the Denver Broncos and one as a backup with the Jets.<\/p>\n

\u201cFirst of all, Tim\u2019s one of 90 [players in camp],\u201d Meyer said. \u201cAnd the thing that I settled in with now, we have 90 and when you kick the ball off you have 48, I believe it is. Forty-six.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis to me is a tryout for a lot of guys, and he falls into that category. To answer your question, he\u2019s working his tail off.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 56-year-old Meyer reiterated that his former star signal-caller app<\/a>roached him with the idea of trying out as a tight end. Tebow officially was signed in May after working out multiple times for various team officials.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur GM [Trent Baalke] was there, our tight ends coach, and our offensive coordinator were there. And they put him through a workout,\u201d Meyer told Eisen. \u201cThey came back to me and said, \u2018My gosh, this guy\u2019s in incredible shape. He\u2019s a big athlete. Our tight end room has been struggling.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThey gave him some things to work on, and then they brought him back\u2026.They came to me and said, \u2018I think we should give him a shot.\u2019\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
