Elfrid Payton Sr. didn\u2019t have any issues that his son was pulled from the starting lineup for Derrick Rose for Game<\/a> 3 of the Knicks\u2019 first-round series<\/a> loss to Atlanta.<\/p>\n

But when Tom Thibodeau\u2019s experiment backfired, Payton Sr., who played outside linebacker for Grambling under the legendary Eddie Robinson and was a star in the Canadian Football League, was left scratching his head after his son never played another minute.<\/p>\n

With Payton sitting out the final three games, the Knicks were blown out in each game \u2014 by a total of 42 points \u2014 and Rose broke down at the end.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would\u2019ve liked to see him play based on him playing the whole year,\u201d Payton Sr. told The Post. \u201cThat\u2019s the only thing I had about it. I was surprised they didn\u2019t try to put him back in and see. I\u2019m not saying it didn\u2019t go well because he wasn\u2019t in there. But they didn\u2019t try to go back to him even in a reserve role.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Paytons live in New Orleans, and Payton Sr. attended the games in Atlanta. Payton\u2019s mother, Danielle, was in New York, but she was little more cutting on Twitter<\/a> than Payton Sr. was to The Post. Danielle posted a photo<\/a> of the new Knicks starting lineup late in the Game 3 loss with the comment: \u201cHow that worked out for you! #ProudMama.\u201d<\/p>\n

After the snubs, it app<\/a>ears clear the Knicks are ready to move on from Payton, who has been the starting point guard the past two seasons. He is a free agent and scouts believe he would be best served at age 27 as being a backup on a good team.<\/p>\n
