NASA\u2019s new chief isn\u2019t satisfied with the Pentagon\u2019s inconclusive UFO report. <\/p>\n

The newly installed NASA administrator Bill Nelson has said their probe into unidentified aerial phenomena is just beginning: His team intends to set up their own research effort into footage of high-speed flying objects spotted by Navy officers over the years, he told CNN Business<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Nelson added that he does not think there\u2019s evidence to assume that extraterrestrials are involved, saying, \u201cI think I would know\u201d \u2014 but conceded it\u2019s too early into their study to rule out the possibility.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t know if it\u2019s extraterrestrial. We don\u2019t know if it\u2019s an enemy. We don\u2019t know if it\u2019s an optical phenomenon,\u201d Nelson told CNN Business. \u201cWe don\u2019t think [it\u2019s an optical illusion] because of the characteristics that those Navy jet pilots described \u2026 So the bottom line is, we want to know.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nelson\u2019s statement comes as insiders close to the Pentagon\u2019s much-anticipated UFO report inform the public that US intelligence has found no credible evidence that extraterrestrials were behind any of the sightings. The former Florida senator and spaceflight veteran also said that NASA would plan to share any new information not seen by national security officials.<\/p>\n

The shocking footage which became key evidence in the upcoming report was first leaked to the public in 2017, at which time the New York Times revealed<\/a> numerous incidents of UFO sightings by US military, along with hints that the government had long held a file on such bizarre aerial occurrences. <\/p>\n

Since then, the former national security official who blew the whistle on these reports has accused the government of engaging in a smear campaign against him. <\/p>\n

Luis Elizondo, former head of the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program, told The Post in April, \u201cThere are some people in the Pentagon that still don\u2019t like me very much. I think they\u2019re pissed at me for the way I left,\u201d referring to the 2017 Times leak. <\/p>\n

NASA press secretary Jackie McGuinness confirmed to CNN Business that Nelson had not yet formally established a task force, though Nelson app<\/a>ears to be laying the groundwork for scientific study.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s not really a lot of data and \u2026 scientists should be free to follow these leads, and it shouldn\u2019t be stigmatized,\u201d McGuinness added. \u201cThis is a really interesting phenomenon and Americans are clearly interested in it [so if] the scientists want to investigate, they should.\u201d<\/p>\n

During a press conference on Wednesday, according to CNN, NASA\u2019s associate administrator for science<\/a> Thomas Zurbuchen clarified that he\u2019s also skeptical that the Navy footage would indicate alien technology<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\u201cPeople tend to underestimate nature,\u201d he said, acknowledging that scientists can\u2019t rule out as yet discovered natural phenomena. \u201cNature is an amazing place where a lot of miracles happen.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
