“#CNN’s Brian Stelter gets roasted for Jen Psaki interview<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

CNN\u2019s chief media<\/a> correspondent is facing ridicule for a groveling interview in which he asked White House press secretary Jen Psaki what the media gets \u201cwrong\u201d when covering the Biden administration.<\/p>\n

\u201cReliable Sources\u201d host Brian Stelter conducted an interview with Psaki on Sunday\u2019s episode of the weekly show, which he kicked off by offering President Biden\u2019s chief spokeswoman a chance to critique the media.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe White House press secretary faces some unique challenges,\u201d Stelter fawned. \u201cBusy summer ahead \u2014 infrastructure, election reform.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat does the press get wrong when covering Biden\u2019s agenda? When you watch the news<\/a>, when you read the news, what do you think we get wrong?\u201d<\/p>\n

Psaki said many in the press corps seemed to fail to recognize how long the legislative process can be while reporting on the administration\u2019s efforts to push the president\u2019s agenda through Congress.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think some of our muscles have atrophied a little bit over the last few years, and there isn\u2019t a lot of memory, recent memory or longer memory, on how long it takes to get legislation forward or how messy the process of negotiating and the process of getting legislation across the finish line can be,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know if that\u2019s the press getting it wrong. I\u2019ll leave you to the critique of that, Brian.\u201d<\/p>\n

Later on in the interview, Stelter asked Psaki if she too worried as a parent about \u201ccraziness\u201d from Republicans.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have a daughter going into kindergarten, I have a daughter going into pre-K, and I think to myself, what kind of country is this going to be when they are our age? Do you fear that given the craziness we\u2019re seeing from the GOP?\u201d he asked the White House spokeswoman.<\/p>\n

\u201cI guess I don\u2019t think about it through a political prism, maybe that\u2019s funny given I\u2019m in Democratic politics,\u201d she replied before beginning to list Biden\u2019s policy priorities.<\/p>\n

Media personalities excoriated the CNN host after clips of the interview began to circulate on social media.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeat me, Jen! Tell me how to be better,\u201d journalist Glenn Greenwald wrote in one of a series of tweets<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cHave I been a bad boy, Jen? I want to be a good boy,\u201d he added in another.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not using hyperbole when I say the \u2018interview\u2019 that @brianstelter did with Jen Psaki yesterday should be studied in journalism school. It\u2019s one of the most sycophantic interviews of a state official you\u2019ll ever see. This is how state TV functions,\u201d Greenwald wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur corrupt media are absolutely nothing more than propagandists and should be treated as such,\u201d Mollie Hemingway, senior editor of The Federalist and a Fox News contributor, tweeted<\/a>.<\/p>\n

She and Stelter then engaged in a back-and-forth about the media, with the CNN correspondent writing<\/a>, \u201cmaybe only Republican press secretaries are allowed to comment on the news media\u2019s performance \u2013 is that your new rule?\u201d<\/p>\n

Hemingway replied<\/a>, \u201cAre you trying to pretend that the posture of the entire corrupt media complex wasn\u2019t cartoonishly hostile to Trump\/anyone who worked for him\/voted for him?<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause just fyi the country was not given memory-erasing drugs causing them to forget what you all did.\u201d<\/p>\n

For his part, Stelter issued a longer tweet addressing the backlash, writing<\/a>, \u201cMy Twitter mentions right now: liberals mad because I asked @PressSec about why Biden won\u2019t hold more press conferences. Conservatives enraged because I asked her \u2018what do you think we get wrong?’\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I feel so old fashioned thinking to myself, \u2018judge the interview in context\u2026’\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
