“#California High School Recalls Yearbooks After Superlatives Section Goes HORRIBLY Wrong

\nA southern California high school has been forced to reprint and redistribute its yearbooks after some of the initially-published books contained a series<\/a> of inapp<\/a>ropriate superlatives.<\/p>\n

Ventura High School<\/strong> in the beach town of Ventura is coming under fire after seniors discovered they\u2019d won categories for superlatives like \u201cMost Likely To Get Canceled,\u201d and \u201cMost Likely To Get COVID Twice.\u201d<\/p>\n

WTF?!<\/p>\n

Initially distributed to seniors back on Thursday, the yearbooks were immedia<\/a>tely under scrutiny. One senior,\u00a0Morgan Jensen<\/strong>, was surprised she\u2019d been named \u201cBest Dancer\u201d and \u201cMost Likely To Be A TV Star.\u201d For one, she doesn\u2019t even dance!<\/p>\n

Jensen\u2019s mother,\u00a0Stephanie Tindall<\/strong>, told\u00a0People<\/em> about how Morgan found out those were actually\u00a0fake<\/em> superlatives \u2014 with the inappropriate ones targeted at certain kids\u2019 yearbooks:<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was like, \u2018This is so random, I\u2019m not a dancer.\u2019 So she posted it on her Snapchat and somebody responded and said, \u2018Those are stickers, peel it off.\u2019 And so she peeled off the stickers.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Yep \u2014 under those stickers were far more inappropriate superlatives of what she\u2019d actually \u201cwon,\u201d including the \u201cCanceled\u201d and \u201cCOVID\u201d mentions.<\/p>\n

Tindall continued from there, explaining how shocked she was that those superlatives would even be in the yearbooks at all:<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was shocked. I couldn\u2019t believe it because she\u2019s dealt with some bullying throughout the years\u2026 I told Morgan, \u2018I\u2019m very grateful you are as strong as you are,\u2019 because this could\u2019ve been something that could\u2019ve caused a kid to end their life. It\u2019s just not right. It\u2019s a deeper level of bullying that happened.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Morgan herself added her own reaction to the not-so-funny situation, saying:<\/p>\n

\u201cCOVID is obviously a real thing, and people have lost family members, so I don\u2019t think that\u2019s something that should be in a yearbook. And the canceled one, I\u2019ve already been bullied for this type of thing\u2026 so it wasn\u2019t really funny.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Wow\u2026<\/p>\n

In a statement sent to\u00a0People<\/em>, a spokesperson for the\u00a0Ventura Unified School District<\/strong> apologized to the students affected by the offensive superlatives, and said the $100 yearbooks would be re-printed ASAP. The statement added that there would be future training for both principals and school staff members who oversee the yearbook and journalism groups from now on.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s probably a good idea, but as Tindall points out, that doesn\u2019t really hold water\u00a0right now<\/em> for the seniors most affected. The miffed mom said:<\/p>\n

\u201cThis has been my outrage as a parent \u2014 at this point, somebody should\u2019ve thought, \u2018Let\u2019s go ahead and reprint this. Let\u2019s not just cover it up with a sticker.\u2019 And there\u2019s been no accountability. The principal tells me there\u2019s going to be more training, there\u2019ll be more student oversight. But who\u2019s accountable for this?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

What a crazy situation!<\/p>\n
