High fashion never rests. <\/p>\n

The comfort shoe of the COVID-19 pandemic has taken a dangerous turn. Balenciaga has unveiled its latest collaboration with Crocs, in the form of a narrow heel, placed precariously on the sole of its trademark rubber clog. <\/p>\n

The monstrosity was unveiled at the fashion house\u2019s\u00a0Spring 2022 \u201cBalenciaga Clones\u201d collection showing<\/a> and immediately drew the ire of pandemic-worn social media<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\u201cGod has abandoned us,\u201d wrote @sch_mittens<\/a> of the heels.<\/p>\n

\u201cKILL IT WITH FIRE,\u201d pleaded @chungf<\/a>.<\/p>\n

No price has been announced for the shoe yet \u2014 but previous attempts to elevate Crocs have crossed into the luxury sphere: Balenciaga\u2019s $850 platform clogs reportedly sold out before even being available in stores, Complex reported<\/a>. <\/p>\n

The style app<\/a>arently comes in green and black, and joins a knee-high rubber boot in the collection as well. <\/p>\n

The ankle-threatening look marks the latest surprise boost for Crocs, which saw an explosion of sales during the coronavirus pandemic. Shares in the company \u2014 founded in 2002 and launched at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, of all unfashionable places \u2014\u00a0hit an all-time high\u00a0last week, with sales surging to $460 million in just the first three months of 2021. <\/p>\n

Adding to the buzz: A-list celebrities have flocked<\/a> to the brand for their own collaborations, including Justin Bieber, Post Malone and Bad Bunny. <\/p>\n

Fashion insiders previously credited the It shoe\u2019s rise to its function-over-fashion aesthetic. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt coincided with resort Hawaiian-style shirts\u201d having a moment, and is part of a \u201ccrunchy, tourist, granola-style backpacking\u201d style, Noah Zagor, senior menswear editor at WGSN, recently told The Post.<\/p>\n

He linked consumers\u2019 embrace of the bulbous, aggressively unattractive shoes with the larger dad-core trend in fashion.<\/p>\n

But now, everything\u2019s changed. With its narrow heel and high fashion branding, the Balenciaga look has shaken all that was near to us during lockdown \u2014 gardens, sweatpants and house shoes among them. <\/p>\n

Many rightly wondered if Balenciaga was trolling an already fatigued 2021 with the style. The spring show did bill itself as a \u201cdeep fake runway\u201d and a \u201ccommentary on the uniformity of trends and their diminishment of individuality,\u201d Hypebeast reported<\/a>. However, the style is here to stay, as evidenced by the brand\u2019s loyalty to Crocs dating back to its first collaboration in 2017. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe were inspired by Crocs and we worked with them on a Balenciaga reinterpretation,\u201d creative director Demna Gvasalia told French Vogue<\/a>, calling Crocs the \u201cworld\u2019s comfiest shoes.\u201d<\/p>\n
